This is part of a strategy to increase total merchant value by developing solutions that address complex and emerging needs of both merchants and acquirers. Our mission is to drive the future of payment acceptance, helping our clients navigate digital commerce complexities and address an increasing need for flexibility and agility.The goal of the Visa Acceptance Platform is to be the world’s most open payment platform by delivering market leading, globally relevant, omnichannel acceptance componentry through open, composable, modular APIs delivered with Visa-grade resilience, security, maintenance, and scale.Director – Software EngineeringWe are seeking a dynamic Engineering Leader to lead our team of engineers who work on high-performing distributed systems. Our stack includes the Java Vertx platform, Kafka for messaging, RDBMS, Cache for persistence, fast access, & the Kubernetes platform. The ideal candidate will have prior experience implementing distributed systems based on the Java platform and will be adept at designing resilient software solutions in collaboration with architects. This role requires a leader who is proficient with GenAI, can enhance team productivity, and is adaptable to tactical or strategic approaches. A key part of this role involves mentoring team members to foster career growth.This position offers an incredible opportunity to lead and develop a team of talented engineers. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously & to resolve scheduling & other conflicts in order to meet all deadlines.Familiarity with budgeting, scheduling, contract and vendor managementExperience with a variety of development methodologies and mature understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each.Superior verbal, written & interpersonal communication skills with both technical & non-technical audiences.Experience in coaching engineers both on technical and career developmentExcellent team player, with strong collaboration skills and ability to influence cross-functional team for resultsFocus on building an innovative, efficient and collaborative team environmentThis is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.QualificationsBasic Qualifications:

• 10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• Demonstrable experience as a People Manager in a software engineering environment.
• 5+ years in a leadership and management role
• Extensive experience with distributed systems, Java Vertx platform, Kafka messaging, RDBMS persistence, and Container platform.
• Prior experience implementing mission critical resilient distributed systems with high availability based on the Java platform.
• Proficiency in designing resilient software solutions in collaboration with architects.
• Familiarity with GenAI and its practical applications.
• Proven ability to enhance team productivity.
• Excellent leadership and mentoring skills.
• Passion to understanding people and to always striving to improve our products and services
• Ability to adapt to strategic or tactical approaches as per the situation.
