Role Description:Director Regulatory ComplianceThe Director Regulatory Compliance is a leadership role within Booking.com’s Compliance & Ethics function, responsible for a portfolio of compliance programming relating to the regulatory landscape in which we operate. The Director will build, operationalize and oversee regulatory compliance and end to end risk management of the company must do regulations, including the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act; manage the risk management and regulatory compliance functions; and lead a team of lawyers and risk managers. The Director Regulatory Compliance will be charged with continuously strengthening and overseeing the identification, assessment of key regulations, and driving controls and processes to mitigate risk in key regulatory areas. As such, a hands-on approach to innovation and implementation is indispensable.The highly-skilled lawyers of the Booking.com Legal and Public Affairs department advise the business and drive the company’s objectives. The lawyers of the LPA maintain independence in their professional practice. This independence meansthat the company will not in any way improperly influence the decision-making of the lawyers acting in their capacity as lawyers.Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the reporting, report assessment, and compliance investigations process throughout Booking.com to ensure the appropriate resolution of reports of actual or suspected employee misconduct;
  • Conduct investigations of suspected employee violations of applicable compliance standards within Booking.com and EMEA based investigations for the other sister brands as a lead investigator, as well as jointly with investigators in other departments;
  • Maintain and strengthen case-management and investigation protocols with focus on increased efficiencies without sacrificing depth and quality;
  • Coordinate the efforts of local compliance officers, Human Resources and other investigative teams across Booking.com. Accountable for the satisfactory investigative performance of these other teams relating to compliance standards and KPIs;
  • Mentor and develop compliance professionals within the function, as well as attract and recruit talent as necessary;
  • Supervise certain investigations conducted by colleagues to ensure appropriate outcomes and identify areas for process improvement;
  • Assess Booking.com-related reports made to the Compliance Helpline, reported through the Open Door process, or referred by management to determine appropriate resolution strategy;
  • Partner effectively with business leaders and stakeholders to obtain appropriately balanced outcomes considering commercial sensitivities while protecting brand reputation and minimizing regulatory risk;
  • Develop strategies to increase investigation efficiency, collaboration among internal departments, and appropriate reporting of misconduct and regulatory activity;
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and recordkeeping of investigations and related activities;
  • Contribute to or lead the modification of policies, processes and investigation techniques as needed;
  • Provide periodic updates, reports and analyses concerning investigation activity and trends;
  • Responsible for ensuring overall investigation activity meets key performance indicators and the Global Compliance & Ethics Department Program Standards;
  • Work closely with Human Resources and Legal departments to ensure consistent disciplinary actions and appropriate remediation of all identified issues;
  • Prepare and deliver periodic reports to senior leadership and other stakeholders on investigations program metrics; develop and deliver investigations-related training programs (including enhancing corporate ‘speak-up’ culture) as needed;
  • Contribute to the regulatory compliance framework within the broader compliance organization by staying abreast of relevant regulations and corporate enforcement trends; Maintain a high degree of interest in professional development and activity in external professional organizations relating to investigations and compliance.

Requirements of special knowledge/skills

  • 8-12 years’ attorney experience, preferably in both top law firm and in-house environments and including leading teams

Experience in a global large scale corporate international environment in a legal role involving regulatory compliance or riskKnowledge and experience in driving a controls cultureKnowledge and experience in conducting and applying risk assessmentsFamiliarity with the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) framework.Management experienceAdaptable: Has openness to new ideas, is a “quick-read” for changing situations and balances long-term view with short-term actions.Analytical with the ability to “think big” and simultaneously understand and appreciate the details necessary to operationalize strategy and goalsSelf-starter with high energy and drive; fast paced and results driven; forward thinking.Proactive, with the ability to quickly respond to issues at hand; able to prioritize effectively; entrepreneurial.Highly flexible, pragmatic and adaptableFirst class communication skills – verbal, written and listening.
