The Curriculum team plans, builds and maintains industry-leading programmes. These programmes meet a diverse range of stakeholder needs, such as those from learners, PDEs, EPA requirements, sales, marketing, accessibility, budget and more. The three key aspects of the team are: 1) building and maintaining high-quality and on-time programmes; 2) exceptional collaboration and stakeholder management; and 3) completing admin.
The role:
As our Director of Software Engineering Curriculum, you will plan and deliver industry-leading training content relating to the Software Developer Apprenticeship Standard. You will drive the design, build and maintenance of Software Engineering training content that can be delivered at scale for maximum real-world impact. You will get the chance to teach workshops and individually coach learners, witnessing first-hand the transformational power of the curriculum you create, and directly supporting apprentices in their journey.
Responsibilities include:
Drive the build and maintenance of the Software Engineering programme
Ensure the programme continues to meet all the requirements of the Apprenticeship Standard
Write engaging, interactive and concise eLearning content that has real business impact and gets learners to End-Point Assessment on time with minimal dropouts
Continuously improve all aspects of the programmes in light of learner, PDE, employer and end-point-assessment organisation (EPAO) feedback
Work collaboratively with the Curriculum and Operations teams to design and continuously improve our suite of high quality, interactive workshops
Plan first-class audio and video content and work with our AV team to produce it
Produce and maintain programme guides, templates and supporting documentation to support learners and PDEs
Work closely and collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders, such as those in the teams of Curriculum, Assessment, Marketing, Sales and Operations, and external, as appropriate
Be the expert on past, present and future versions of the Apprenticeship Standard, assessment methods and the best approaches to consistent learner achievement
Support operations with the delivery of live workshops, ensuring learners have an outstanding learning experience and make progress against their learning objectives
Once the content production is complete, manage a caseload of apprentices to mentor, coach and equip them to become Software Engineers
About you:
Essential
Expert-level, lived industry experience in Software Engineering
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the Software Developer apprenticeship standard
Strong experience teaching others Software Engineering
Detailed knowledge of End-Point Assessment (experience of having successfully taken a cohort of learners through EPA desirable)
Experience writing Software Engineering training content
Excellent knowledge and understanding of a broad range of concepts, tools and frameworks in modern software engineering, including but not limited to:
-Python, Java, C#, JavaScript and their ecosystems
-Full stack skills including Bash, SQL & NoSQL, HTML and CSS
-Clean coding principles including patterns and paradigms, data structures and algorithms
-Software design, stakeholder management and requirements analysis
-Software project management and methodologies (e.g. Agile, Scrum)
-Codebase management, codebase management and CI/CD
-Cloud deployment and containerisation
Can work at speed to meet tight deadlines
Ability to create professional, accurate content to a very high standard
Ability to quickly and comprehensively research new topics to write definitive content
Can plan effectively and coordinate activities
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
Enthusiasm for coding demonstrated by robust personal side-projects and/or attendance at coding groups (e.g. Meetups)
Desirable
A teaching/coaching qualification
Experience of delivering Software or DevOps apprenticeships (level 3/4 desirable)
Formal teaching experience (higher education preferable)
Masters or above in STEM subject with a coding element (note that demonstrable real-world experience is most important)
