Job Description:At IPS, you will apply your knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference in the lives of people by solving complex challenges related to pharmaceutical, biotech, and animal health research and manufacturing facilities.In this role, you will manage and coordinate the activities of the Engineering Design Department. You will also provide technical expertise and oversee the manpower necessary for overall project design development and support.What You’ll Do
- Coordinate with project managers to determine the scope, complexity, planning, and scheduling requirements of projects.
- Assign personnel to provide engineering and technical support, determine the correct personnel needed with the most appropriate individual qualifications, and prepare manpower & cost estimates.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of overall work regarding engineering design and CAD quality, compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes, and ordinances, and adherence to design and project schedules.
- Provide adequate training, technical & administrative guidance, and instruction to personnel within the department.
- Develop Engineering’s strategic business plan in concert with overall company planning efforts involving the technical and regulatory activities required to achieve long-range annual goals and objectives.
- Manage various personnel functions, including but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations, and employee development.
- Plan and schedule work for the department ensuring the proper and effective distribution of assignments and manpower, as well as the space and facilities for the subsequent performance of duties.
- Act as the contact person for inter-office labour, work sharing, and outsourcing to consultants.
- Evaluate and initiate the necessary training in the engineering discipline to ensure pertinent technical competence, acceptable social/communication skills, and personal development of leadership.
- Maintains a training log for each employee and provides Senior Management with a quarterly report that outlines appropriate recommendations for training and a quarter-by-quarter budget.
- Determine labour, resource, and financial needs of the department.
- Develop discipline policies, technical standards, and procedures as needed.
- Establish productivity measurements and a reporting system to track progress and ensure compliance.
- Regularly review productivity/quality reports to ensure top performance.
- Participate in business development by seeking out new projects that may exist with current or new clients.
- Contribute to the preparation and delivery of sales presentations.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert within the discipline and complete project work as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Registered professional engineer with extensive experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Progressive ability, capacity and aptitude in administration to plan, organise, supervise, coordinate technical work, and obtain cooperation from others.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff professionals.
- Analytical thinking, structured problem-solving skills, superior communication skills, team building, and strong work ethic.
- Can build a report with department staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an engineering design office or EPCM contractor.
