Your JobAt Channable we have over 100 developers, building and launching features at a rapid pace to meet the demands of our customers in an ever-changing eCommerce environment.As a DevOps Engineer, you will be contributing to the improvement and scaling of our cloud infrastructure and the smooth operation of our tool. You will also help us improve and fine-tune our processes from provisioning, building and deploying, to monitoring and alerting.We are specifically looking for someone to join the Developer Experience (DevEx) team. We believe that developers should be able to focus on building new features and that everything else, like deploying these features, should be as frictionless and automated as possible.As part of the DevEx team, that is what you will be working on.You are expected to find the right tool for the different processes, or to write a custom one if it doesn’t exist yet. You have experience developing software in a professional setting and know what makes for a good developer experience. We are looking for someone who can be proactive, autonomous, and keen to be a part of our DevEx team!Your challengesSummarized, your tasks will include (but not be limited to) the following:Automating building, testing, provisioning, and deploying of our servicesManaging our infrastructure as code (that can be reviewed and version-controlled)Hardening and securing our internal and external systemsImproving and maintaining our monitoring and alerting systemsDeveloping new tools that help us make the process of building software even more efficient and enjoyableIf you want to read more about our development adventures, check out our tech blog: You can also take a look at some of our open-source work at to get a feeling of how we work together and what our code looks like.Job RequirementsIdeally, you have experience in software development and in keeping a complex distributed application running and secure at all times. You should be interested in declarative infrastructure, reproducible builds, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), dynamic resource scaling, security best practices, and general robustness of a distributed system. In more concrete terms, we expect you to have the following:Commitment to high quality engineeringExperience with CI systems such as Semaphore, Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, TravisFamiliarity with infrastructure as code tooling, such as Ansible and Terraform.Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols (SSH, DNS, SSL/TLS, HTTP, etc.)Deep knowledge of Linux and system administration tools such as e.g. apt, systemd and bashFamiliarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQLSecurity-awareness and familiarity with concepts like defense-in-depth and the principle of least privilegeSolid programming skills (preferably in Python)EU citizenship or a work permit, preferably already living in The NetherlandsAvailable for at least 32 hours per weekAnd then there are some things that are ‘nice to have’:Experience in managing infrastructure with either GCP, AWS, or AzureKnowledge of Hashicorp tools, i.e. Consul, Nomad, Vault, and TerraformFamiliarity with build tools such as NixExperience using the Nix package managerExperience using databases like PostgreSQL and RedisHands-on experience with distributed systemsWho are we?Channable was founded 10 years ago in the heart of Utrecht.
