Job summaryOur current Deputy Head of Service is retiring after many years with our service, and this creates an exciting opportunity to join the Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice Service at Imperial College! We have been investing heavily in our Service to better support our students through university life. We have grown from a small team to a diverse and multidisciplinary group of over 30 professionals striving to deliver the best experience possible for our students.We are searching for a Deputy to manage and develop the SCMHAS, to deputise and lead in the absence of the Head of Service. This post would suit an individual who is currently leading a Multi-Disciplinary Team in a smaller organisation or who would enjoy a change as part of an innovative service. You will be at the forefront of student mental health at an exciting time at Imperial. If you are ready for the next step in your career this may be the post for you.Duties and responsibilities

  • Line management of a cohort of staff
  • Safeguarding and risk management
  • Implementation of professional and education sector policies as they apply to mental health work
  • Debriefing and advising staff regarding students who present with complex mental health needs
  • Service development
  • Representing the service with internal and external stakeholders at senior level

  • Education to degree or master’s level in either counselling, psychotherapy, counselling psychology, mental health social work, nursing with RMN or CPN Specialities. Holding full accreditation with the appropriate professional body.
  • Substantial experience of managing and leading a multi-disciplinary psychological service (includes multiple teams).
  • A successful track record of managing/leading teams through significant change, with innovation of service delivery aligned to a broader institutional strategy.
  • Extensive experience of developing and fostering good team morale through an open and collaborative style of leadership
  • Extensive experience of leading and delivering service design in a complex organisation
  • Substantial experienced as a practitioner working in healthcare, counselling or mental health.

Working from home days will be set by the Service in line with operational needs.Due to the nature of the role the majority of annual leave will need to be taken outside of term-time.As this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, at the appropriate level, will be required for the successful candidate.
