Then you are the one we are looking for as Scientific Coordinator.About the job and responsibilitiesThe National Centre for Register-based Research are seeking a dedicated and proactive Science Coordinator for The Pioneer Centre for Statistical and computational Methods for Advanced Research to Transform Biomedicine (SMARTBiomed) which was launched in June 2024. You will work closely with a scientific coordinator based at Oxford University, the centre director, as well as co-directors.The Pioneer Centre for is a virtual centre with three hub sites, Aarhus University, University of Copenhagen and University of Oxford. Aarhus University is the administrative centre for SMARTBiomed, and this position will be based at the National Centre for Register-based Research at Aarhus University.Your main tasks will primarily be managing projects and budgets, data governance, organising events and promotion activities as well as managing grant applications.The position is an administrative position, but it would be beneficial if you have a PhD degree and research experience.You will be working together with the centre director, co-directors and the University of Oxford science coordinator to develop comprehensive project plans outlining timelines, milestones and deliverables. You will develop and maintain strategic overview of financial resources and provide general oversight and strategic direction on data management, liaising with SMARTBiomed researchers.You will be responsible for the oversight of students, scholars, and visitors. This will include active management of recruitment and hiring timescales, oversight of HR requirements ensuring compliance with Departmental and University governance.Once a year you will be staying at least one week at the University of Oxford hub.About youYou have a MSc or PhD degree, research experience and an independent drive to take a leading role in a growing team, and willingness to learn new skills as needed.You might also have experience with:

  • Project Management: Proven track record of an organisational skill set.
  • Evidence of successfully managing complex projects including oversight of budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing multiple (competing) priorities and timelines including an ability to independently make decisions and solve problems.
  • Experience with research services and contractual processes throughout the life cycle of a grant (pre and post award).
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and follow demanding work timetables, including working to deadlines, attending to details under time pressure, and using appropriate organisational software.
  • Technical Proficiency: High level of technical/computer literacy, including strong abilities with github, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat
  • Data Management: Familiarity with data management and data governance best practices and tools
  • Experience in applying for access to data sets for use in research
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

It is funded by a grant from research foundations in Denmark: Danish National Research Foundation, Lundbeck Foundation, NovoNordisk Foundation, Carlsberg Foundation, Villum Foundation. AU is the administrative centre for SMARTBiomed with Prof Naomi Wray (based at UO and AU) as the Director.

The Pioneer Centre for Statistical and computational Methods for Advanced Research to Transform Biomedicine (SMARTBiomed) will support a critical mass of researchers who focus on method and software development for analysis and inference from massive human data, advancing applications in medicine. The Pioneer Centre for SMARTBiomed will leverage large-scale, multimodal biomedical data combined with focussed innovation in statistical and computational methods including machine learning to advance our understanding, treatment, and prevention of human disease.The core mission of SMARTBiomed is development of statistical and computational methods focussing on causal inference, risk prediction and machine learning. This broad focus is ring-fenced by questions relevant to common complex diseases/disorders and ring-fenced by big data types that are newly emerging for exploitation. By bridging omics and clinical big data, the Centre aims to facilitate the translation of these advancements into practical applications for improving human health.About NCRR– the National Centre for Register-based Research, Aarhus BSS is financed mainly by external research funds. The Centre houses an internationally acknowledged group of researchers in psychiatric epidemiology, regularly publishing scientific articles. In addition to its own research, the Centre also conducts guidance and counselling related to register-based research projects, validation and data management of register data, as well as development of methods for analysis of register data. Other significant grants based at NCRR include iPSYCH, CIRRAU and EpiPsych. Also, a new international centre on AI in Health is expected to open soon at the NCRR.Further informationThe position is to be filled by 1 November 2024 but can be flexible subject to mutual agreement.
