Job Description:The Cosmic Dawn Center (DAWN) invites applications for the DAWN Fellowship. The position is intended for outstanding early career scientists whose research falls within DAWN’s research themes of galaxy evolution, dust and the interstellar medium in galaxies across cosmic time. Dawn Fellows are expected to pursue their own independent, cutting-edge research programs, either in theory or observationsResponsibilities and qualifications
As a DAWN Fellow you are expected to carry out world-class research, and to collaborate with DAWN scientists at DTU Space and NBI, as well as our international institutes associated with DAWN. You are also expected to help create a stimulating and fun research center at DAWN. We also encourage the candidate to mentor and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and co-supervise PhD students.As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).We offer
DAWN is a Center of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and is located at the DTU Space department of the Technical University of Denmark and the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. In addition, the center has a number of associate members at major research institutes across Europe, North America, and Australia. DAWN brings together experts in all aspects of early Universe galaxy evolution and is deeply involved in major existing and upcoming surveys with e.g. HST, ALMA, Euclid, and JWST, as well as cosmological and zoom-in simulations. The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is three years.The position is a full-time position with an expected starting date 15 December 2024.DAWN Fellows receive support for computing, travel, and publication expenses.Most non-Danish citizens are eligible for a favourable tax scheme. We link natural science closely with the development of new technology. DTU Space is involved in the full life cycle of space activities, including concept and design, construction and proto-typing, calibration and validation, implementation and operations, data analysis, processing, dissemination, and applications, leading to new instruments and applications. We contribute to about 200 scientific publications a year.In the Astrophysics & Atmospheric Physics Division of the Department of Space Research and Space Technology (DTU Space), current focus areas cover large-scale structure of the universe, physics of compact objects, exoplanets, upper atmosphere physics and cosmo-climatology as well as development of instrumentation, in particular high-energy instrumentation, i.e. X- and gamma ray detectors and -optics. The division is currently active in the operation of instruments and data analysis from three satellites. The division also runs four instrumentation laboratories and hosts a center for space weather research and forecasts.Technology for people
