We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Data and AI Competence Lab (in Brussels, Leuven or Ghent)Are you a passionate data scientist, analyst, or researcher eager to make a significant impact in the world of data? Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, fostering a dynamic environment where your ideas and insights are valued and can lead to real-world applications.In this function, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of topics in the context of collaborative and multi-disciplinary R&D projects, helping companies to realize AI and data-driven innovations.You take the lead in industrially-driven research projects in the domain of data innovation and AI, you supervise small project teams and coach colleagues.You work together with our industrial and research partners to develop data-driven solutions for real-world problems in many diverse application domains such as sustainable energy, digital industry, mobility, safety and security, etc. This includes supporting companies in defining, setting up and evaluating their research and innovation roadmap, while also being closely involved in the subsequent project execution.You build an (inter)national knowledge network within industry, the research world and with Sirris’s partners, and manage multi-party (inter)national R&D projects in the field of data innovation and AI.You shape, discuss, and write new project proposals with companies and research partners.You build up knowledge about the latest technological developments in research and industry and contribute to the organisation of dissemination events towards companies to spread those insights to the industry.As an ambassador of AI you facilitate cross-domain internal collaboration with our experts of other technological disciplines with the goal of adopting AI expertise in those teams.There is always a nice challenge ahead.What do we expect from you?You hold a PhD or master in Computer Science or in a related engineering discipline.You have at least 3 years of experience in an R&D environment with hands-on knowledge about state-of-the-art ML/AI technologies.You have a track record of contributions in the field of data innovation and AI, either in academia with solid post doc experience, in industry or in an industrial related R&D environment.
Knowledge about the following is highly recommended: statistical and machine learning tools in Python such as scikit-learn, Pandas, Tensorflow or PyTorch, etc., well-known development technologies, such as git, Docker, Jupyter, etc.You are familiar with setting up R&D proposals.You have good coaching skills to lead small project teams and you enjoy sharing your AI expertise with other colleagues.In order to fit in our collaborative and international environment, you are creative, dynamic, and are able to work independently yet transparently towards colleagues. In addition, you are also a strong team player, both with colleagues as well as with external partners. Both individual and team problem solving skills are crucial in this position.You see the value of a multidisciplinary approach, working across different technologies and industries.You have the desire to work with the industry and to turn research results into services.You enjoy presenting (preliminary) results in a tangible way and demonstrate engaging teaching skills by sharing knowledge with industry via workshops, seminars, masterclasses, and social media.You have good communication skills and are fluent in English, enabling you to clearly formulate arguments and reasoning.
