The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for two positions as Data Manager/Analyst as per 1 November 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a two-year full-time position.The Department of Biomedicine prioritises diversity and a good work environment, as this is a prerequisite for groundbreaking research. The Department of Biomedicine provides research-based teaching of the highest quality and is responsible for a large part of the medical degree programme. Academic staff contribute to the teaching. The department employs approx. 500 people from all over the world, and they make use of the department’s modern laboratory-, core- and animal facilities. The Department of Biomedicine focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration with business and industry, and numerous researchers from the department have established companies to develop new medicinal treatments founded in professional scientific basic research. You can read more about the department and about the faculty .The research teamThe research team you will be working with includes collaborators at the National Centre for Register-based Research, Aarhus University, as well as many national and international partners. The team conducts register-based and genetic epidemiologic studies of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions. We are seeking new colleagues to help collate, manage, and analyze data from the Danish registers within the scope of defined and time-limited tasks. If you have a master’s degree or a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or similar and a fondness for data, you may be one of the colleagues we are looking for.Your job responsibilitiesAs analyst and data manager, you will be responsible for obtaining access to, organizing, merging, and preparing data from the Danish registries for studies using genetic, environmental, sociodemographic and health data on the Danish population. You will be curating data sets and preparing data for analyses of large health-related registry and genomics data sets on both the GenomeDK supercomputer and Statistics Denmark computing cluster. Further, you will assist researchers by running analyses under their guidance using the prepared data sets.Specifically, you will work on one of two NIH funded projects: “Maternal Health” studying the relationship between disease in mothers and the risk of autism in their children, and “ARCH”, Autism Risk and Maternal Cardiometabolic Health, that looks deeper into the relationship between cardiometabolic disorders in mothers and autism in their offspring. Your tasks will be to conduct the required data management and statistical analyses.You will report to Professor Jakob Grove, Department of Biomedicine.Your competencesYou have a master’s degree or a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or similar and a fondness for data.

You’ll be a successful candidate if you have most, if not all, of the following competencies:
  • Experienced in programming bash, SAS, R and/or python
  • Experience with management and curation of large data sets
  • Experience with high performance computing
  • Experience doing statistical analyses of large data sets, including analyses of large pedigrees and other family designs
  • Experience analyzing genetic data such as SNP array data and polygenic scores
  • Experience with Danish registry-based research
  • Experience producing publication-quality results, figures, and tables
  • Knowledge of data security and Danish and EU regulations concerning privacy

You are inclusive, team-oriented and collaborative and contribute to a good work environment.Moreover, we expect you to be able to work independently, including having strong trouble-shooting skills and adherence to timelines.
