Offer DescriptionWe are recruiting successful (or soon-to-be) PhD graduates interested in joining the French National Research Institute for Digital Science and Technology (Inria) on advanced physics- and data-driven modelling in the field of structural mechanics and acoustics, for a 18-24 months Postdoc in the Inference for Structures (I4S) research team.Hosting institution:Inria is the French center for Scientific Excellence responsible for the Digital Programs Agency. The institute, with its 3800 scientists and 220 multi-disciplinary teams distributed in 10 research centers, is on the frontline of digitalization in Europe, while conducting world-class research focusing on high-impact disciplines. International and industrial collaborations, ground-breaking research (e.g. ERC), software development, artificial intelligence, quantum- and cyber technologies (AI) and deep tech startups development are the core mission of the institute. Inria ranks 16th worldwide at the AI Research Ranking while being the number one European institute for fundamental research in digital sciences.Research descriptionThe Archi-Noise project is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) to tackle the issue of smart structures for noise, vibration and harshness, which is major concern in the current transportation, civil and aerospace industries. The project’s objective is to revisit the conceptual paradigm from which innovative lattice-like architected materials originate. It will explore out-of-the-box material and geometrical concepts at meso- and macroscopic scales, to overcome some of the current limitations of existing concepts in terms of structural and acoustic and vibro-acoustic performance. A cross-disciplinary approach is undertaken, ranging from data-driven modelling, inverse identification, structural dynamics, acoustics, and exploiting periodic and lattice-based design. As part of the project, you will be invited to collaborate with PhD students to develop a comprehensive set of data-driven methods to harness and evaluate wave propagation phenomena in architected materials.

This funded postdoctoral position focuses on uncovering physical interaction laws governing elastic structures through advanced analysis of wave dispersion characteristics. By integrating data-driven identification methods, theoretical frameworks and computational methods pioneered by our research group, the research seeks to bridge wavefield measurements with meso-scale metamaterial design.
