The Trust is seeking to recruit a consultant psychiatrist with an experience in addition psychiatry to a new post that has been created by combining existing posts on Bridge House, an inpatient addictions unit (0.7WTE) and Allington Centre low secure unit (0.3WTE).The post holder will work alongside a part-time consultant (0.5WTE) at Bridge House and a full-time consultant (1WTE) at Allington Centre to provide inpatient consultant/ RC responsibilities to 9 patients at Bridge House and 5 patients at Allington Centre.The post holder will also be expected to work at Allington Centre for 12 hours per week alongside a full-time consultant.The post holder will be part of Forensic and Specialist services Care Group within KMPT and will be on the on-call rota for forensic psychiatry that covers secure psychiatric services.Main duties of the jobReviewing new referrals with the detox manager, and obtaining additional information from referrers, GP and other specialists where neededConducting pre-admission assessment either face to face or on the phone as appropriate, or attending pre-admission multi agency meetingsAdmitting patients or supporting junior doctors admitting patients including requesting and interpreting investigations including blood tests and ECGsReviewing patients and assess co-morbid physical and mental health care needs including cognitive screeningThe clinical duties of the post holder at the Allington Centre LSU are as follows:The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for up to 5 patients at the Allington Centre and provide psychiatric care during their admission. This includes participating in clinical team meetings and 6 monthly CPA reviews.The post holder will be involved in the assessment of suitability for admission to the low secure services in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team. QUALIFICATIONS
Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications

ELIGIBILITY
Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

TRANSPORT
Essential

  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
