2) Green tourism camps in Wadi rum of Jordan
Expected deliverables:
2.1. Green tourism camps methodology
2.2. Green tourism camps assessment report,
2.3. Green tourism camps roadmap in Jordan,
2.4. Guidelines/tool kits on Implementation of the roadmap for preventing food waste and plastic wastes and the report on capacity building sessions,
2.5. Recommendations for policy makers and SMEs.
2.6. Green tourism camp component report

3) Provide support to UNEP SwitchMed team for activities in Jordan.
Expected deliverables:
3.1. Final report of SwitchMed II activities in Jordan
3.2. The consultant might further work on the preparation of communication materials such as the development of single pager, presentation to the steering committee and partners, upon request by the national focal point.

Duties and Responsibilities

This consultation is part of the SwitchMed II Programme funded by the European Commission and implemented by UNEP, which consists of supporting eight countries on the southern shores of the Mediterranean, to develop and implement policies to adopt Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Patterns. SwitchMed directly supports the reinforcement of an enabling policy environment, the practices by private sector and facilitation of experience-sharing among stakeholders. It further aims at stimulating the creation of greener business opportunities and decent employment, while reducing the environmental footprint of consumption and production activities. Different measures will help to make the circular economy (CE) model the mainstream business model in the Southern Mediterranean region.
Under the SwitchMed programme, a Sustainable Consumption and Production National Action Plan (SCP-NAP) was developed under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment with advisory services and technical support from UNEP. The Plan is part of Jordan’s efforts to achieve Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG12.1).
In close collaboration and discussion with the Ministry of Environment of Jordan, it was agreed that UNEP will recruit a consultant to support the SwitchMed national focal point (NFP) and the UNEP SwitchMed II team in implementing several activities at national level.
The consultant will provide technical assistance to the following tasks:
(i) Blue Economy national dialogue in Jordan
(ii) Green tourism camps in Wadi Rum
(iii) Provide support to UNEP SwitchMed team for activities in Jordan.

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree in environmental management, industrial/ environmental engineering, economics or a related field.
At least 15 years work experience on sustainability services including sustainable consumption and production, circular/green economy, blue economy including experience in working with public-sector officials and/or industrial sectors and providing them with technical advice on environment, climate change, energy efficiency, SCP, circular/green economy, sustainable built environment or sustainable communities etc, and with a good understanding of the legislative, political and institutional schemes on SCP in Jordan.
Excellent research skills to analyze and compile relevant information from desktop research, stakeholder interview, and project implementation, to summarize, produce studies and draw sensible conclusions. Excellent writing skills in drafting technical documents and reports, by summarizing critical information from research and interviews, and tailor the language and styles towards policy makers and businesses.
Experiences on technical support in environmental policies is an advantage. Experience in coordinating multi-stakeholder national / regional processes and establishing and maintaining productive partnerships with clients.
Working experience at regional and international levels is desirable; Experience in project implementation in developing countries in transition context is an advantage.
• Knowledge of the SwitchMed programme, SCP-NAP, Circular Economy, Blue Economy, and national SDG/Climate Change reporting mechanism is an advantage. Knowledge of the UN System and especially UNEP is an advantage.

Languages

Fluency in English and Arabic is required, for this work.
