Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe Consultant Neurophysiologist will deliver a range of investigations including EEG, VTEL, EP, NCS/EMG service. The department is equipped with networked XLTEK Digital Video EEG systems, Dantec Keypoint EMG/NCS/EP and Cadwell EMG/NCS systems. The department provides daily outpatient clinics at Charing Cross Hospital & St Mary’s Hospital (Monday to Friday) and provides urgent inpatient cover across the three sites. Therefore extensive knowledge of Neurophysiology is critical to a high quality service being delivered.The role incorporates research and training responsibilities, for which active participation will be required in order to ensure the department meets the requirement of research governance and staff knowledge and experience is kept updated as technology and innovation advances in the healthcare industry.As part of good practice, the post-holder will be encouraged to ensure patients are involved in decisions relating to their and proposed treatment plans.The Neurophysiology Department’s long term vision is to acquire IQIPs accreditation, thus active involvement and participation in making beneficial changes within the service is pivotal.Person specificationEducation/ QualificationsEssential criteria
- On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
- On GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
- Appropriate Royal College Membership
- Specialist training in Clinical Neurophysiology
- CCST achieved or within 6 months of interview date
Knowledge/ SkillsEssential criteria
- Experience of EMG, NCS, EEG, Ambulatory EEG, Home VTEL, EP -Paediatric and adult patients
- Ability to offer and be accountable for, full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
Leadership/ Management skillsEssential criteria
- Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
- Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues
- Knowledge of finance/budgets
- Management of staff
Teaching/ TrainingEssential criteria
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff
AuditEssential criteria
- Understanding of principles of clinical audit
Academic achievements including research/publicationsEssential criteria
- Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
LanguageEssential criteria
- Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
