Organizational Setting

The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.

The Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section (NFCMS) assists interested Member States in the development of safe, environmentally friendly, economically viable, proliferation-resistant and sustainable fuel cycle options and it encourages information exchange on the exploration, mining and processing of uranium and thorium, on the design, manufacturing and performance of nuclear fuels, on the management of spent fuel, and on the development of advanced and innovative nuclear fuels and fuel cycles.

Main Purpose

Provide technical expertise to NFCMS Teams in the preparation and implementation of:

1. The International Conference on Fast Reactors and Related Fuel Cycles (FR26), planned in Beijing, China from 18 to 21 May 2026,

2. The International Conference on Fuel Supply Chain for Sustainable Nuclear Power Development, planned in Vienna from 13 to 15 October 2026,

including the proceedings publication, and to contribute to other publications, e-learnings and infographics under preparation by NFCMS.

Functions / Key Results Expected

• Compile peer-reviewed abstracts and extended abstracts;
• Prepare analyses of inputs quality for acceptance decision to build the preliminary Conferences’ Programmes with selection of oral and poster contributions;
• Liaise with authors to monitor final submissions of abstracts, extended abstracts, posters and oral presentations;
• Track the formatting and editing of peer-reviewed extended abstracts, before the Conferences, to enable publishing them through the IAEA Conf App during the events and as official IAEA Proceedings after the events;
• Keep the Conferences websites’ contents up to date;
• Gather and track the reception of session-summaries, introductory and closing statements and main conclusions of the Conferences;
• Compile technical information on specific topics for the development of infographics, e-Learning and publications under preparation.

Concrete Deliverables:

• Built up INDICO structure based on the final list of Tracks in the official announcements of the conferences (4-6 months before the Conferences).
• Updated dashboards of submitted abstracts by external and internal participants during the abstracts’ submission process; and extended abstracts’ submission (1-2 months before the Conferences);
• External and internal participants informed of the acceptance/rejection of their submissions;
• Updated dashboard to track the funding of participants and invited speakers;
• Finalized Conferences’ scientific programmes (2-3 weeks before the Conferences);
• Updated Conferences’ websites;
• Completion of the conferences’ proceedings for submission to the NE DCT (1 month after the Conferences);
• Other NFCMS technical publications edited, infographics, e-Learning, etc. developed upon request and need.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor degree in nuclear science related topics, International Relations or related field.
• Master’s degree would be an advantage
• Relevant related professional experience.
• Knowledge on nuclear science and engineering, nuclear fuel cycle, spent fuel management is an asset;
• Social media management skills;
• Experience in organizing technical events and conferences, coordinating with speakers and contributors;
• Experience in compiling technical reports and documents.
• Computer and software skills (preferably Sharepoint and INDICO);
• Good communication skills;
• Fluent in English;

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 150, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
