A clinical position as consultant at the Department of Geriatrics at Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre is open for appointment from as soon as possible.The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor (chair) of Internal Medicine: Geriatrics at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.With this new position the Department of Geriatrics, Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.The advertisement for the professorship is available from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of CopenhagenAbout the departmentOn 1 January the Department of Geriatrics was established and are physically located on two different hospitals: Amager and Hvidovre. Currently we have wards and outpatient clinics on both hospitals and a strong desire to develop and expand within new functions and across sectors. At Hvidovre we also have an Acute Geriatric Team in the Emergency Department and an outgoing service for old patients. We are a new Department where a new consultant/clinical professor will have great influence on the development of the department, the specialty, and the research strategy. We are currently 13 consultants and 25 doctors in training. The department has around 140 employees. We diagnose, treat and care for old patients with complex multimorbidity, frailty and polypharmacy across sectors and cross-disciplinary collaboration whilst focusing on the individual patient. Our ambition is to be among Denmark’s best geriatric departments.Clinical functions and focus areas of the departmentThe Geriatric specialty focuses on the interdisciplinary comprehensive geriatric assessment, which is the core of our work. The clinical functions include ward rounds, outpatient clinics, supervision, patient assessment in the emergency department, but are negotiable after individual wishes. We focus on patient involvement, early discharge planning, early follow-up visits, hospital at home, cross-sectional collaboration, prevention of recurrence of illness and re-hospitalisation, loss physical function and improving quality of life of our patients.Research and teachingWith this new position the Department of Geriatrics, Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.QualificationsApplicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Geriatrics.ConditionsIn order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Amager and Hvidovre.Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Geriatrics. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Geriatrics.
