A clinical position as consultant of Internal Medicine: Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases, Medical Division, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte is open for appointment from as soon as possible.The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor (chair) of Internal Medicine: Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.The advertisement for the professorship is available from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen ( )About the departmentThe Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte is a joint medical and surgical department. The department has several highly specialized functions and takes care of both medical and surgical patients. The department is divided into separate wards and outpatient clinics. Part of the department’s surgery is performed robot-assisted, and the department also has a large endoscopy function and a research laboratory. The department has significant research activity and collaborate nationally and internationally. Specifically for medical gastroenterology the department has a significant national and international profile in relation to especially IBD treatment with contributions both in clinical and basic research in inflammation.The department has 350 employees, 4 Professors, +20 PhD students, and a total budget of DKK 220 million.The department serves the Capital Region’s central planning area with a population base of 435.000 citizens and has a large emergency intake.The ward has 57 available beds. Annually 15.000 discharges, 39.000 outpatient contacts, 11.000 endoscopic examinations and more than 4.500 operations.Clinical functions and focus areas of the departmenthas an inpatient ward and a large outpatient clinic subdivided into hepatology and gastroenterology and covers adult patients with acute and chronic liver failure, acute and chronic pancreatic diseases, and gastroenterological diseases. The division has a longstanding tradition for advanced IBD treatment focusing on new treatments based on clinical and laboratory research. The division has an IBD clinic with a large IBD population, many of whom are in advanced targeted medical treatment. The division has a highly specialized function in complicated penetrating IBD. Complicated patients are managed by multidisciplinary teams.The clinical part of the position will include responsibilities in both the inpatient ward and the outpatient clinic within the sub-specialization field of the applicant.Research and teachingThe Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases has significant research activity mainly within inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), surgical pathophysiology, hernia surgery, emergency surgery, advanced endoscopy, hepatology, and colorectal cancer, all areas with collaboration nationally and internationally.The division of medical gastroenterology and hepatology runs a research laboratory focusing on various aspects of the inflammatory process and cell cultures. The division offers unique basic research possibilities due to an exceptionally large patient base in the outpatient clinic, a large endoscopy ward and research laboratory facilities with “wet lab.” This longstanding research tradition in this area has fostered numerous PhD projects and doctoral theses.Bowel ultrasound is part of the clinical daily work to improve treatment for the IBD patients. The department is a key Danish centre regarding continuous innovation in this area, and regarding training and education of specialists in bowel ultrasound through Copenhagen Intestinal UltraSound (CIUS) centre. Research is an integrated part of this function and has produced PhD theses based on the prognostic utility of ultrasound in ulcerative colitisThe department is a university department that educates students at all levels and contributes to both the theoretical and practical part of the specialist medical education.With this new position the Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases, Medical Division, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.QualificationsApplicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Gastroenterology and Hepatology.ConditionsIn order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship), and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte.Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Diseases, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte.Application procedureThe application must include the following:
