Computing Support Officer

Full-time: 35 hours per weekOpen-ended: permanentWe are seeking a dedicated and proactive Computing Support Officer to join our Computing Support Team. The successful candidate will provide first- and second-line support to all staff within the School of Biological Sciences. This role involves installing and maintaining hardware and software, diagnosing and resolving technical issues, and assisting with the administration of our server infrastructure.This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week). We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combine a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.The OpportunityThe successful candidate will gain experience in a variety of areas, including professional development through opportunities for career advancement within the School of Biological Sciences and the wider University IT Services. They will be involved in special projects that provide exposure to advanced IT systems and innovative solutions.Working in a collaborative environment, the candidate will closely interact with a supportive team of IT professionals and engage in cross-departmental projects, offering a broader perspective and diverse experiences. They will play a crucial role in supporting cutting-edge research by ensuring reliable and efficient IT services, directly impacting the daily operations of staff and students.The role offers diverse experiences, including working with various operating systems and hardware such as Windows, OS X, and Linux/Unix, and developing strong problem-solving skills by addressing a wide range of technical issues and user queries.
