Rotherham Hospice is a charity dedicated to the people of Rotherham, offering specialist palliative and end of life care to our community since 1996.

We provide comprehensive, compassionate care through two primary patient services:

* 24-hour, 14-bed Inpatient Service
* 24-hour Hospice at Home Service

About the Role

Rotherham Hospice is seeking a compassionate and skilled Complementary Therapist to join our team.

The Complementary Therapist will play a crucial role in providing holistic and integrative therapies to patients in our inpatient unit and at home through our Hospice at Home service.

This role offers an opportunity to enhance the well-being and quality of life of patients and their families by delivering supportive and comforting therapies.

Key Responsibilities

Therapeutic Services:

* Provide complementary therapies such as massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, reiki, and relaxation techniques to patients in the inpatient unit and at home through the Hospice at Home service.
* Tailor therapy sessions to meet the individual needs and preferences of patients, considering their physical condition, emotional state, and treatment goals.

Patient Assessment and Care Planning:

* Conduct initial assessments and consultations with patients to determine their suitability for complementary therapies and develop personalised care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
* Monitor patient progress and adjust therapy interventions as needed to address changes in symptoms, pain levels, and overall well-being.

Patient Education and Support:

* Educate patients and their families about the benefits and potential risks of complementary therapies, providing information and guidance to help them make informed decisions about their care.

Offer emotional support, active listening, and empathetic presence to patients during therapy sessions, creating a safe and supportive environment for healing and relaxation.

Collaborative Care Coordination:

* Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team, including nurses, social worker, therapists, and chaplains, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for patients and their families.
* Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and care planning sessions to share insights, recommendations, and updates on patient progress.

Documentation and Reporting:

* Maintain accurate and confidential records of therapy sessions, assessments, and patient progress notes in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
* Prepare reports and updates on therapy activities, outcomes, and trends for review by the senior leadership team.

Personal Specification

* Certification or qualification in complementary therapies such as massage therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, reiki, or similar modalities required.
* Minimum of two years of experience providing complementary therapies in a healthcare setting, with experience working with patients with life-limiting illnesses preferred.
* Strong interpersonal skills and empathy, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with patients and their families.
* Knowledge of complementary therapy techniques, contraindications, and safety precautions, with the ability to adapt interventions to meet individual patient needs.
* Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
* Commitment to professional development and continuing education in complementary therapies and palliative care.
* Deep empathy and compassion, understanding the sensitive nature of hospice care and its impact on patients, families, and staff.
* Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changes and challenges within the fundraising environment.
* Full UK Driving Licence
