Sun Originals is a brand new video production studio making premium series for The Sun, Sun Sport and Fabulous brands. Creating, developing and producing a slate of brand new original shows, the department is tasked with delivering huge new audiences, developing a raft of famous new faces and helping to deliver The Sun to its next generation of viewers.

Fabulous is The Sun’s brilliant lifestyle magazine brand – famous for its coverage of fashion, beauty, real life, entertainment and more.

Your role: You will be at the forefront of our shift to video, ordering and delivering unmissable shows that both inform and engage audiences. You will play a key role in driving our video output, ensuring our strategy aligns with traffic goals and revenue-generating platforms such as YouTube, our own site and across social channels. You will commission and curate video content that amplifies our journalistic integrity while capitalising on what drives clicks, views, and conversations online.

Day to day you will:

  • Video Commissioning & Curation : Reporting to the Head of Video, you will commission exciting original and creative new shows focusing on our Fabulous brand, ensuring they drive audience growth, delight commercial partners, and help us become number one in News Video.

  • Editorial leadership: As Commissioning Editor, you take editorial responsibility for every episode you order. You must brilliantly support and guide your colleagues to create the best-performing content possible.

  • Production mastery: You will work with colleagues to ensure your shows arrive ahead of deadline and in perfect shape to share with the world.

  • Traffic-Driven Strategy : Use data-driven insights to inform your commissioning decisions, focusing on creating high-performing content for platforms like YouTube, the website, and social media.

  • Budget & Resource Management : you’ll take responsibility for ensuring efficient use of resources without compromising on quality.

  • Industry Awareness : Stay ahead of digital video trends in lifestyle, fashion, consumer and news, continuously experimenting with new formats, technologies, and approaches to audience engagement.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Experienced Video Commissioner : You have experience in commissioning and producing premium original video shows for YouTube and across social media platforms.

  • Digital Native : You are deeply immersed in the digital media landscape, with an intuitive understanding of what drives traffic online, especially through video content.

  • News Savvy : You have a solid understanding of journalistic practices, the latest news and lifestyle coverage trends, and how to turn them into compelling visual stories that resonate with digital audiences.

  • Data-Driven & Results-Oriented: You understand how to use analytics to inform content strategy and have a proven track record of driving audience growth and increasing video views through strategic commissioning.

  • Creative & Fast-Paced : You thrive in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment, always ready to capitalize on breaking news or trending sports events to create impactful video content.

  • Team management: You are used to managing individual producers, editors, and teams of producers to deliver great episodes in a positive manner.

  • Leadership & Collaboration : You’re a natural collaborator who can work closely with journalists, producers, and technical teams to ensure a seamless video production process from concept to execution.
