DepartmentThe Archaeology Data Service (ADS) is a world-leading digital repository which provides digital data archiving services for UK archaeology and heritage. We are based in the King’s Manor in the University of York but we work closely with external partners, both in Higher Education and in the public and commercial archaeological sectors. We are an established component of UKRI’s digital research infrastructure and we are also active in international collaborations, as a leading member of the ARIADNE European Research Infrastructure. As a result of a successful £14.4m bid to AHRC under the RICHeS programme we are now leading a consortium to develop and host a Heritage Science Data Service (HSDS).RoleThe Collections Development Manager (HSDS) will take responsibility for developing HSDS data collections across the full range of Heritage Science and Conservation Research (HSCR), managing the relationship with the RICHeS collections projects and facilities, and the users of those facilities, as well as developing new relationships with additional HSCR stakeholders. They will report to the HSDS Service Manager, but also work with the Head of Collections Development to take responsibility for collections development in particular domains, as well as taking a shared responsibility for the line management and allocation of tasks to the Digital Archives Officers and Assistants.

Skills, Experience & Qualification neededYou should have knowledge of the organisation of, and key stakeholders in, the heritage science and conservation sector. You must have strong IT skills and excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver presentations to national and international conferences and to engage an audience. Experience of working in a management role and of writing reports or funding applications is essential. You must be able to work collaboratively with others, deliver a quality service, and identify and implement continuous improvement. A graduate qualification in archaeology, heritage science and conservation or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience is desirable, as well as knowledge of the approaches to digital preservation, information management and the FAIR principles.Interview date: 11 November 2024For informal enquiries: please contact the HSDS Manager, Jo Tozer onPlease see for further information.This position is based at the University’s beautiful campus in York city centre.
