This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual with the appropriate skills to join a first class multi-disciplinary team providing the full range ofservicesto the majority of East London and beyond in a progressive London teaching hospital environment.Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Register.Main duties of the jobClinical Obstetric AnaesthesiaGain experience in the provision of safe and effective anaesthetic care to patients undergoing complex obstetric deliveries/procedures, including the anaesthetic management of delivery for parturients with cardiac disease, abnormally invasive placenta and high BMI.Gain experience in the management of a busy labour ward and elective and emergency obstetric theatre sessions, and in doing so develop the multi-disciplinary leadership, communication and team-working skills necessary to ensure that the care delivered is safe and timely.Anaesthetic assessment and pre-operative MDT planning for complex deliveries. Attend the high-risk obstetric anaesthetic clinic, cardiac obstetric MDT clinic and obstetric medicine clinics.Gain competence in the use of neuraxial ultrasound to facilitate regional anaesthesia.Academic and ManagementDesign and conduct an audit or QI project, with the aim of publication/presentation locally and nationally, and to participate in on-going departmental research.Gain experience in service development and writing clinical guidelines.Gain management experience by attendance and involvement in departmental managerial meetings such as Labour Ward Forum and Clinical Risk Management Meetings.TeachingThe post-holder will gain experience in the clinical supervision of CT2 anaesthetic trainees on the labour ward.Working for our organisationThe Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation.   • GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • 5 years of anaesthetic training

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of UK healthcare system
  • Completion of an approved core anaesthetics training programme
  • Primary FRCA / Equivalent

KnowledgeEssential criteria

  • Experience in the peri-operative care of patients including pain management
  • Experience in Obstetric Anaesthesia
  • Audit experience

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in management of high-risk surgical cases

ResearchEssential criteria

  • Understands research methodology
  • Actively encourages research with junior and other staff
  • Active participation in research

Desirable criteria

  • Published or submitted research to indexed journals
  • Experience of research presentations to learned societies on topics related to anaesthesia
  • Presentations to learned societies or publications related to Obstetric Anaesthesia

Teaching & TrainingEssential criteria

  • Involvement in teaching undergraduates, junior medical staff, nurses and allied health professionals

Desirable criteria

  • ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS
  • Involvement in undergraduate education.
  • Involvement in postgraduate education
