Climate and Environment Assistant

vacanciesineu.com

Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, this is a new post, running up to September 2026.
The Countryside Education Trust was created in 1975 and has a residential centre, small farm,
garden, heritage orchard and Treehouse classrooms in ancient woodland. The new Fort Climate Centre
was opened by HRH the Countess of Wessex in 2023.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is
interested in making a career in the environmental sector. It will be a broad role, with excellent
development opportunities. We have an ethos of enabling people to acquire skills much sought after
in the environmental education world; we anticipate that this role will develop during the period
of the contract. No two days are the same at Home Farm, so flexibility, enthusiasm and good team
skills are essential.

You will be supporting the Centre Manager, who is a highly experienced
environmental educator, with a great track record of training people. There is lots of community
engagement, administering the community events programme and creating events and content for the
website. You will be helping to develop our climate focussed work, working on the relaunch of our
programme of events and courses, and using social media to promote the Trust. Our whole team works
on the farm, garden and woodlands so some of your time will be assisting with the animals, or our
conservation work: you must be happy to work outdoors, although we will train you. Over time, there
will be opportunities to learn how to deliver education sessions. And finally there will be the
opportunity to conduct a relevant research project of your own choosing.

We need someone with a
degree in a related subject, an environmental or farming background (this can be through
volunteering), with great people and social media skills and a passion for the environment. Ideally
you will be able to drive. Beyond that, we would love you to have experience in a support role, and
work or voluntary experience in a related setting. You will need to be confident with animals and
children, though we will train you.

Given the nature of our work, this is not a hybrid role. We can
offer 17 or 21 days a month, including two weekend days per month to be arranged – the animals need
feeding!

You will receive 22 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro rata), as well as your birthday
off. Salary will depend on experience. The probation period of three months is paid at NMW, but
after successful completion, salary is in a range depending on experience to £23,500 pa pro rata.

Please contact [email protected] or call 01590 612401 for the job description or for further
information. You will find an application form on our website.
