Under the responsibility of the VP, Quality & Food Safety, Standards and Risk Management, the Mission is to leverage scientific, regulatory & technical expertise to drive QFS governance and compliance, delivering our promise to consumers and customers. ​This is achieved through risk identification, assessment and end to end management, underpinned by a global QMS. ​​The strategic imperatives of QFS, Standards and Risk Management are:

  • We safeguard Danone’s license to operate and reputation via a three-pronged strategy of Detect, Defend, and Drive.
  • We are a team of experts in quality and food safety driving the design and delivery of Danone’s QMS and global policies and standards, providing a rigorous governance framework.
  • We are covering the end-to-end value chain with risk identification, assessment, communication, mitigation, and escalation.
  • To be at the forefront of QFS, scientific and regulatory thought leadership, we create and leverage robust networks of external partners, institutions, and associations.
  • We drive the development and delivery of QFS training and practical onsite support through SME leadership, enabling business and animating the wider technical communities.

The missions of General Population Product Categories team within QFS, Standards and Risk Management are to:Serve as the center of QFS expertise for the General Population product categories, defining Standards that are fit for purpose and are designed to protect consumers and Danone’s reputation. We support the business and our stakeholders in the end-to-end value chain with a risk-based focus and build QFS capabilities with tools and training.1. Job MissionTo enable innovation and growth by ensuring microbiological quality and food safety in the end-to-end value chain for all General Population products and processes.Others

  • to contribute to the deployment of QFS culture across the organization
  • to be the link between the QFS, Operations and R&I and DFSC microbiology experts to support risk management & due diligence
  • to contribute to the building of QFS microbiological knowledge & competencies
  • to mitigate the QFS risks in Danone operations, ensuring that correct processes are implemented to prevent Danone from damageable risks

2. Main responsibilities

  • Business support on microbiological Q&FS to the Danone GP – Dairy, Plant-based, Waters and Beverages – R&I, sourcing, design, manufacturing, supply chain.
  • Expert input for QFS microbiological topics in GP Categories
  • QFS criteria and verification plans – definition, review, update and training
  • PNC, Crises, and Incidents
  • Liaison between the business and DFSC for risk assessments and scientific positions
  • Environmental monitoring plans – define, review and update QFS requirements for environmental monitoring plan – training, set up and application
  • Support other team members and QFS stakeholders across the value chain on microbiological topics (Design, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Supply Chain …)
  • Provide microbiological expertise to QFS, Operations and R&I teams: HCP, Risk management, troubleshooting/action plans, root cause analysis, pathogen, spoilage and hygiene monitoring.
  • Translate microbiological risk assessments (identification & characterization) to risk management
  • Standards and guidelines for existing and new products based on predictive microbiology, mathematical modelling and statistical tools.
  • Support the definition, review and update of microbiological QFS criteria for raw and packaging materials
  • Participate in and animate internal networks related to QFS in verification activities for all GP categories
  • Innovation
  • Provide microbiological QFS risk analysis and risk mitigation recommendations for innovation projects.
  • Assist the local project teams to solve concerns regarding microbiological QFS risks along the design process
  • Communication and Training
  • Communicate to the main stakeholders the creation, review and update of the QFS standards
  • Develop the microbiological capabilities (competencies/expertise) by designing and delivering training modules across the organization

  • QFS SRM: DFSC Microbiology, FS SN Microbiologist, DFSC Chemical Safety, FSMS, FS Scientific & Regulatory Affairs, QFS Compliance, Crisis/Incidents team,
  • QFS: Regional and Global QFS, CBU & Plant QFS managers, QFS in Sourcing, QFS in Design, Analytical Excellence, QFS Regional Microbiologists
  • Other Danone: R&I, Operations. Global Engineering, C&I GS, FS Audit
  • EXTERNAL: Industry Associations, External laboratories, Scientific and regulatory communities (Analytical, Microbiology, etc.).

1. Competencies neededEDUCATION and PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • PhD in Microbiology or Master/Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • 20 years’ experience in a food related industry, preferably with similar PTC to those in GP Danone, QFS in Operations with solid experience of microbial risk management
  • Strong background in applied food microbiology, bacterial physiology, pathogenic microorganisms, environmental and spoilage contaminants
  • Experience working in a food factory in a QFS role
  • Proven background of problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work on multiple and often unplanned tasks simultaneously
  • Experience of working in a global role, across cultures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate and make quick decisions on sensitive topics.

TECHNICAL

  • Food Microbiology (criteria and verification plans, predictive modelling, challenge tests, thermo-resistance, fermentation)
  • Risk Analysis (HACCP, statistics, sampling plans by attributes)
  • Q&FS hazards

in food and packaging (pathogens and spoilage microflora and their by-products) * Food Hygiene, GMP, FSSC 22 000 and related standards.

  • Q&FS processes and systems.
  • Audit skills and auditor experience
  • Microbiological laboratory testing and methodology
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in English, additional language nice to have (French and/or Spanish)
