Please ensure that a HR address/email is provided for each referee named.Job overviewThe NHS Northern Gambling Service is a regional service for people and families experiencing significant gambling related harms, and associated distress. It has clinics in the North West (Manchester, Liverpool and Preston) and Yorkshire and Humber and the North East (Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle). The post holder will work across our North West geographical footprint and will be based at one of the North Westy Clinics. Travel will be expected across the service footprint to attend occasional meetings and CPD in person.
The core programme for service users and carers is psychological therapy in a group and/or individual format. The multi-disciplinary team is made up of psychology, psychotherapists, mental health nurses and lived experience. The post holder will work in a hybrid way, with face to face clinical work at the clinic’s & some work from home via virtual consultations to be expected. There is also the opportunity to innovate and influence the development of the service. Some teaching/presentations in public, academic, and professional settings is also a part of the role, and we have an active research department where there are opportunities to become involved.
The service is psychologically led by a national expert in the field, who contributes to policy as well as treatment.Main duties of the jobThe main duties will include: comprehensive initial assessments and formulation; risk assessment and risk management; delivery of CBT therapy for gambling harms on an individual and group format; delivery of the carers intervention in an individual format; psychological assessment and reports; delivery of psychological therapy for co-occurring difficulties; supervision of non-psychologists undertaking psychological intervention, risk assessment, and formulation; attendance at MDT meetings; teaching and training; research and evaluation; engagement with stakeholders.Working for our organisationThe Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. They will provide assessment, case formulation, risk management, and therapy with service users experiencing gambling harms and associated difficulties. The role also involves using our family intervention for those affected by someone else’s gambling disorder.
The role will involve research and evaluation, as well as supporting audit and clinical governance. Providing clinical supervision will also form part of the role. The postholder will be supervised by a psychologist or cognitive behavioural therapist and work within the full regional MDT. They will work within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the Trust’s policies and procedures.

Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria
  • BPS accredited Doctoral level training in clinical psychology/Masters level training in Counselling or Forensic Psychology including specific models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, cognitive Behavioral therapy and lifespan development psychology OR cognitive and/or Behavioural Psychotherapy – post graduate qualification
  • Accreditation as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council or BABCP
