Casual Outdoor Education Instructor Job descriptionThornbridge Outdoors is Sheffield City Council’s outdoor learning centre located near Bakewell in the Peak District. Our mission is ‘to widen the horizons of young people through real outdoor adventures in the Peak District’.This is an exciting opportunity to join the pool of casual instructors at Thornbridge Outdoors, and play a key role in providing excellent adventures for our clients.Applicants should have

  • A passion for outdoor activities and delivering outdoor learning.
  • Experience leading outdoor activities and the drive to be able to deliver the full range of activities offered at the centre.
  • At least two of the following qualifications:
  • Mountain Training Rock Climbing Instructor or higher award.
  • British Caving Local Cave/Mine Leader or higher award.
  • British Canoeing qualifications appropriate for leading canoeing on a reservoir sheltered water.
  • Level 2 Mountain bike leader/coach or higher award.
  • Mountain Training Hill and Moorland Leader or Mountain Leader or higher award.

Your main role will be to run high quality outdoor education sessions for a range of different groups at our centre, in various venues across the Peak District and on occasion at schools. Activities that the centre delivers include climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, high ropes courses, caving/mine exploration, problem solving, abseiling, hillwalking and bushcraft.Different opportunities for work include single days (both midweek and at weekends), part weeks, weekends and Monday to Friday blocks.We are especially interested in applications from instructors qualified to deliver a range of different activities with availability that includes some weekends.For further information about the post please contact Ed Allaway on or email(Great Longstone, near Bakewell, DE45 1NY)It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups.
