The scholarship is fully funded for 3 years from February 1st 2025 and can be applied for by candidates with a master education within the humanities from a Danish university.The Department of Communication and Arts
Your daily workplace will be Department of Communication and Arts at Roskilde University. DCA covers RUC’s Communication programs (Communication, Journalism, and Performance Design) and Art programs (Danish, Philosophy, History, and Cultural Encounters).We conduct excellent, interdisciplinary research in the intersection between Communication, Cultural Studies, Social Science, and Humanities, and offer new PhD fellows an innovative and interdisciplinary university environment, characterized by diversity with respect to theory, method, and area of study in research and education. You will be welcomed by our PhD program in Communication and Arts and offered a number of activities from international PhD courses and master classes with researchers from around the world to writing retreats, frequent work-in-progress seminars as well as informal activities. We expect you to be actively involved in all PhD activities and that you contribute to a dynamic and inspiring PhD environment.In order to support and strengthen the interdisciplinary research profile of the department, and the researcher education of the PhD fellows, all PhD’s are allocated two supervisors (a main supervisor and a co-supervisor) from two different research groups in the department.PhD fellows enrolled in DCA’s doctoral school are associated with the same research group as the main supervisor and can partake in more research groups if relevant. PhD fellows are also encouraged to collaborate with other research environments and networks both nationally and internationally. Proposed PhD projects must be original within the humanities and relate to or enhance research fields at the department.
Project descriptions – either in English or Danish – should outline research topic, overall objectives, a state-of-the art of the research field to which the project seeks to contribute, planned methods, empirical material, theoretical approaches and relevant ethical considerations, as well as a schedule for its implementation. The project description should not exceed 5 pages in total not including references. Applicants are strongly encouraged to reflect on how their project relates to present research activities at the department and to suggest possible main and co-supervisor from the department.Teaching
PhD scholars at DCA´s doctoral school are appointed under the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Teaching responsibilities will be planned with the aim of matching the research interests, competences and pedagogical ambitions of the candidate with the needs for research-based teaching at the department. The PhD scholars may teach at both MA and BA levels, at any of DCA´s programmes. Teaching at Roskilde University involves supervising problem-oriented project work (PPL – read more here) and requires an interdisciplinary approach.Qualifications and Assessment
The ideal candidates are enterprising and possesses good interpersonal and communication skills. PhD scholars at DCA are required to be visible, involved participants in the department’s daily life and activities, and to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

The employment is full time referring to Dean Ida Willig.
The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.Application procedure
After the deadline for applications the Dean will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and – later on – their assessment.
