Our research group is interested in investigating the neural mechanisms and brain correlates that underlie cognitive function in both healthy population and patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders through various neuroimaging and neuromodulation techniques and the advanced analysis of new methodological solutions for brain mapping, including structural and functional brain MRI, and human intracranial (LFP) and surface (EEG) electrophysiological recordings.Also, our research projects involve the use of a wide variety of non-invasive and invasive brain stimulation techniques. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) is a method for the study of cognitive and brain function that is quickly gaining popularity. NIBS is making it possible to establish a causal relationship between cognitive processes and the functioning of specific brain areas. Like lesion studies, NIBS can provide information about where a particular process occurs. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a procedure in which stimulating electrodes are placed into the deep structures and selected targets of the brain.

The electrodes are connected to an implanted pulse generator which is battery powered. Despite the uncertainty of the precise mechanisms underlying its efficacy, DBS is clinically effective in improving motor function of movement disorders (such as essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease and primary dystonia), in epilepsy, chronic pain, and some types of mental illness.If you are interested in applying for MSCA-PF, please submit by email to (no later than 30th of June 2024) the following documents:1.
