The Center for Reproductive Medicine and Andrology (CeRA), group of Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Stefan Schlatt, at the University of Münster (WWU), Germany, is offering a position initially limited to 3 years.
Full-Time
Salary according to TV-L E13
The Center for Reproductive Medicine and Andrology (CeRA) is a Center of Excellence for research and clinical service in andrology and reproduction. Its research is dedicated to solving essential questions in basic reproductive functions and clinical applications, providing benefits for male patients of all ages. Scientists and physicians combine their multidisciplinary expertise in reproductive medicine/biology and molecular reproductive physiology.
The institute has recently been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the WWU-Medical faculty to discover new biomarkers of sperm function and develop strategies for their evaluation using novel technological tools. Conventional sperm evaluation cannot detect sperm abnormalities at the biochemical and molecular level, limiting its diagnostic value, especially in cases of unexplained male infertility. Therefore, we aim to explore new approaches to assess the functional status of human spermatozoa. We hypothesize that analytical techniques, such as Raman microspectroscopy and flow cytometry/FACS can open the possibility of evaluating simultaneously biochemical and cellular markers otherwise undetectable by traditional methods.
The position may also be provided to an experienced graduate student with an opportunity to obtain a PhD.
For this project, we are searching a highly motivated and ambitious postdoctoral researcher with the desire to shed light on sperm (dys)function and generate clinically relevant information to improve the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility.
Responsibilties:
You will apply state-of-the-art technologies (Raman microspectroscopy, flow cytometry, FACS) to establish in vitro and ex vivo assays to validate new biomarkers
Develop a research program to determine novel parameters of sperm function and design strategies for their evaluation in the field of andrology
Assist scientists in experimental design/protocol development and data acquisition and development of cell-based assays in reproductive research
Data presentation in seminars, public forums and congresses
Qualifications:
Experience in cytometry-based assays and cell sorting
MSC– or postdoctoral degree in biomedicine or natural sciences
Knowledge on gonadal cells and/or gametes
Ability to independently perform reseaech
Opportunity:
An international and creative working environment
State–of-the-art research facilities
Excellent possibilities for career development
Option for individual start-up funding
