Bank Support Worker

Dove Cott Foyer and Swan House Foyer, Basildon

£13.12 effective from 1 April 2024

Hours as and when required

Do you need flexibility in the days you work? Our bank roles (sometimes referred to as “relief roles” in other companies) mean that you will be able to choose from available shifts and have the benefits of a consistent workplace combined with opportunity to build positive relationships with the individuals we support. However, you aren’t guaranteed shifts every week as hours are worked as and when required.

We’re seeking an experienced Bank Support Worker to join our teams across Dove Cott Foyer and Swan House Foyer, to make a real difference to the lives of our customers. Both schemes are in close proximity to each other

Swan House Foyer provides supported housing for single young people aged 18 to 24. Dove Cott Foyer provides supported accommodation for single, young parents aged 18 – 24 who are pregnant or have a child or children. Across both of our services our teams encourage our customers to develop their skills and live as independently as possible. Working closely with the Foyer Federation we run a programme of workshops and projects designed to support the needs of the young people to prepare them for independent living.

We’re looking for supportive and positive people to empower our customers. You may be faced with challenging situations daily so you will need to be resilient and confident in managing these. On occasion you may be required to lone work.

We value our team and encourage learning and progression through our comprehensive induction programme, as well as ongoing training to develop new and existing skills and encourage progression. We have our own Learning and Development Academy, who provide a wide range of training courses, open to all.

Sanctuary also offers a great employee rewards scheme, where you will be able to receive a variety of discounts from major retailers.

The role of Bank Support Worker is referred to internally at Sanctuary as Bank Project Worker.

The role of Bank Support Worker will include:

-Regularly assessing the needs of customers by writing and updating support plans, and signposting access to education, training, and employment

-Prompting and motivating customers to support them in their day-to-day living
-Supporting with group customer involvement activities like cooking and baking sessions, open to all customers at the service
-Offering advice in relation to fulfilling tenancy conditions
-Assisting customers with managing finances and welfare benefits

-Encouraging social inclusion and helping customers to build their confidence, resilience, and self-esteem

-Ensuring Sanctuary Supported Living delivers its safeguarding responsibilities
-Completing some house management tasks, including health and safety checks in the building and monitoring arrears

Skills and experiences:

-Proven experience of working with vulnerable people
-A positive approach to working with young people who have a range of needs
-Good interpersonal and customer care skills, with an approachable attitude
-Effective communication skills

-Sound knowledge of action/support planning, key working, risk assessment and safeguarding
-Ability to work on your own initiative
-Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel or similar
-NVQ3 in Health & Social Care, or willing to work towards is desirable
