OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The UNESCO Culturevacanciesineu.com2030 Indicators is a framework of thematic indicators whose purpose is to measure and monitor the progress of culture’s enabling contribution to the national and local implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The initiative is integrated into UNESCO’s Programme and Budget for 2024-2025 (42 C/5) and the work on it across the Culture Sector is led by the Deputy Director of World Heritage. The UNESCO Culturevacanciesineu.com2030 Indicators provide a conceptual framework and methodological instruments for countries and cities to assess the contribution of culture to the SDGs as part of the existing implementation mechanisms of the 2030 Agenda at the national or local levels. The framework will assess both the role of culture as a sector of activity, as well as the transversal contribution of culture across different SDGs and policy areas. Evidence gathered will inform policies and decisions as well as operational actions. In the period 2021-2022, 12 countries and 14 cities are already implementing this thematic framework with more than 10 countries and cities expected to join in 2024 and 2025 in the second phase of implementation.

Long Description

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture (ADG/CLT), the general supervision of the Director of World Heritage and the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of World Heritage, and in close collaboration with the project team, the incumbent shall carry out the following tasks:

  • Support the overall coordination and implementation, at the headquarters level, of the UNESCO Culturevacanciesineu.com2030 Indicators under various projects, including under a project titled “Advancing evidence-based policies and actions, and supporting policy making to enhance the contribution of creative sectors and industries to sustainable development” financed by the European Union, through different funds, supporting countries and cities taking part in the initiative in collaboration with the national and local implementation teams, regional and international experts, UNESCO Field Offices and the relevant national and local authorities;

Long Description

  • Liaise with the expert consultants to ensure the timeliness and quality of deliverables including reviewing data and reports received; develop terms of reference for consultants and coordinate project administration in collaboration with the project team;
  • Liaise with different partners to coordinate implementation of related activities as needed in the selected countries and cities for up to 4 countries and 4 cities, including by organizing workshops and meetings as needed; support the mobilization of the UNESCO Culturevacanciesineu.com2030 Indicators Expert Facility and coordination with the national and local implementation teams, contribute to the development and dissemination of capacity building and training materials, as well as follow up to the Regional Capacity Building Workshops organized in February 2024;
  • Support project monitoring by contributing to the preparation of reports as per UNESCO and project donor requirements, including the financial reporting and resource mobilization as needed by contributing to the preparation of the relevant reports, documentation and concept notes;

Long Description

  • Coordinate the development of capacity building materials around the UNESCO Culturevacanciesineu.com2030 Indicators to enrich the content of the UNESCO Culturevacanciesineu.com2030 Indicator’s website as needed and in line with the relevant communication strategy agreed with each of donors;
  • Contribute technically to enhancing and enriching the project including through the coordination and synthesis of expert inputs for the development of additional indicators for peace-building towards the refinement of the UNESCO Culturevacanciesineu.com2030 Indicators’ methodology;
  • Contribute to the review and editing of the main project outputs stemming from the implementation, in particular reports summarizing data results, and ensure their conformity with UNESCO’s standards and Programme’s objectives in view of publication by UNESCO.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in urban planning, geography, or any culture related field or international relations, economics, information science, or management.

Work Experience

  • 2 years of professional experience in project management or cultural resource management or international cooperation.

Skills and Competencies

  • Drafting and communication skills to prepare communication material, speeches, and briefings.
  • Good interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy to be able to engage with a variety of partners internally and globally;
  • Adaptation skills to work harmoniously in a multicultural working environment;
  • Ability to deal with multiple stakeholders and requests;
  • Good analytical skills to examine material, prepare and process documents;
  • Good IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook, etc.)

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French and good knowledge of the other.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience

  • Experience in field of culture, the SDGs indicators, Sustainable Development
  • Experience with the United Nations or a comparable international organization
  • Experience drafting reports and managing data

Skills and Competencies

  • Overall familiarity with UNESCO and the World Heritage Centre, UNESCO Culture Conventions

Languages

  • Knowledge of another/other official language(s) of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).
