At the department of Culture and learning, the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Aalborg University, a position as Associate Professor in higher education pedagogy and academic development will be open for appointment as of the 1st of December 2024. The primary workplace of the position is at the Aalborg Campus. The appointment as Associate Professor will be a fixed full-time position, which will include both research and teaching activities.JobbeskrivelseThe position will primarily be attached to the research group‘Social and Human science Approaches to Research in Education and Problem-Based Learning’(SHARE-PBL). Furthermore, the applicant will be affiliated with the Institute of advanced Study in PBL(IAS-PBL). IAS-PBL is a cross-faculty unit that aims to strengthen the quality and development of PBL research and practice across AAU.In terms of research, we seek applicants with significant expertise in research focused on higher education pedagogy. The position entails research on academic development, enhancement of educational programs as well as pedagogical innovation. Applicants with proven intellectual scholarshipwithin areas of digital education(such as blended learning and AI), will be preferred. Furthermore, the applicant must be able to document practical competencies within academic development. That is, how to facilitate learning and development amongst academic staff based on research in higher education pedagogy and didactics. Since Aalborg University is a PBL university and as the position will be affiliated with the IAS-PBL, knowledge about PBL and the AAU PBL-model is a requirement.The selected candidate will thus conduct research and teach within at least two of the following areas:
- Academic Development
- Higher Education pedagogy
- Problem-based Learning
- Digital teaching and learning
In terms of teachingThe position includes various teaching activities at AAU Learning Lab. Learning Lab is the pedagogical center at Aalborg University. It aims to support university teachers with resources and training to build and develop their competencies, skills, and pedagogical knowledge to provide high quality teaching. The applicant will be affiliated with the university pedagogy program but is also expected to participate in the development of new activities for early career academics as well as more experienced staff.Furthermore, the applicant will be expected to teach at bachelor as well as master programs at the Department of Culture and Learning.In relation to teaching, applicants should document:
- Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to deliver high quality teaching, using a range of pedagogical approaches including problem-based learning, project supervision, group work, interactive seminars and lectures.
- Given the international perspective in all Learning Lab activities, the successful applicant must be able to teach supervise, and assess written and oral performances in English as well as in Danish. International applicants are expected to learn Danish.
In terms of research
The successful candidate is expected to undertake research and publish research output of an internationally recognized quality and engage in external research networks and collaborations.In relation to research, applicants should document:
- Experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the applicant’s ability to deliver research at the highest level.
- A personal research plan which is consistent with the Department of Culture and Learning research strategy and demonstrates the potential to develop new research projects.
- Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to develop external and/or international networks and collaborations.
- Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to engage in activities with actors outside academia to enhance the impact of research.
- Experience in obtaining external funding and experience in engaging in externally funded projects.
- Experience with participation in large scale university strategic projects.
- Experience in collaboration with professionals from different academic disciplines.
In terms of personal qualities, the applicant is expected to have strong interpersonal skills and to be able to participate in team teaching as well as the planning of teaching and research activities with colleagues. In addition, the applicant must be able to establish and maintain good relations with colleagues and students from different backgrounds. An appointment as associate professor is a permanent appointment which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To some extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.THE APPLICATION
