Job Description:Do you want to unravel the molecular mechanisms behind development of chronic inflammation, cancer, metabolic disease, and other disorders related to inflammatory signalling with the aim of identifying new therapeutic opportunities?The Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Cell Signalling and Inflammation. The position will be placed in Section for Medical Biotechnology that has around 100 staff members.The section performs high-impact research and innovation aiming at harnessing the biotechnological and therapeutic potential of proteins and cells with a particular focus on immunology, metabolism, antibody research, cutting-edge proteome technologies, mammalian cell technology, glycoengineering, high-throughput screening, and diagnostics. The section also teaches Bachelor’s and Master’s students in biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, and mammalian cell factories and has extensive international and national collaborations with top academic institutions as well as industrial and clinical partners.We are looking for an Associate Professor working in the area of cell signalling and inflammation with specific focus on posttranslational protein modifications in control of signal transduction (e.g. ubiquitination, phosphorylation, or other protein modifications) and their involvement and dysregulation in inflammation-related diseases.Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to lead an ambitious and internationally competitive research group focusing on posttranslational control of inflammatory cell signalling. It is desired that the research uses a combination of molecular cell biology, protein biochemistry and engineering, and proteomics approaches to study posttranslational regulation of inflammatory signalling and its involvement in disease development. This includes crosstalk and cross-regulation with other signalling systems such as metabolism, cell death, and cell fate decisions, as well as development of molecular tools, methods, or technologies for sensitive detection, enrichment, or manipulation of protein modifications and their signalling. It is expected that this research contributes to the understanding of posttranslational regulation of cell signalling from the molecular mechanistic level to the level of physiology and disease and aim at identifying new therapeutic opportunities or possibilities for engineering cell signalling. It is also expected that the research will involve local and international collaboration, including potential collaboration with clinical partners, to advance the understanding of inflammatory disease aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, and possible treatments.Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Lead a research group conducting frontier research (as explained above) within cell signaling to deepen our understanding of the regulation of inflammatory signaling and how its dysregulation leads to disease,
  • Design, develop, and teach BSc-, MSc-, and PhD-level courses,
  • Supervise BSc and MSc student projects,
  • Supervise and mentor PhD students and postdocs,
  • Attract competitive funding from Denmark and Europe for excellent frontier research,
  • Establish and develop collaborations and partnerships with colleagues in academia, the healthcare sector, and industry, and participate in international research collaborations/consortia,
  • Contribute to the development of strategic research and educational initiatives.

Your primary qualifications are:

  • A strong, international track record of high-impact, excellent research within posttranslational regulation of cell signalling and inflammation,
  • Ability to fulfill teaching duties within protein science and technology, cell biology, and immunology in an effective and independent manner,
  • Documented pedagogical/didactical training, and experience in teaching, course development, and course leadership at all university levels (BSc, MSc, and PhD),
  • A strong record in acquisition of research funding,
  • Experience in leading a research group and attracting and nurturing talent,
  • Significant experience with reviewer and editorial activities at internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals,
  • Experience with consultancy or advisory work for biotech or biopharmaceutical companies,
  • Experience with strategic development of research and educational initiatives as well as research policy within the Danish university sector.

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding at least a few years of Associate Professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.Starting date is according to mutual agreement.
