At the Bioinformatics Section at the Department of Health Technology (DTU Health Tech) you will be at the cutting edge, exploring new frontiers in the field of bioinformatics.The Bioinformatics section at DTU Health Tech has its main research and teaching activities in bio-medical and bio-technological informatics, ancient genomics, immunoinformatics, cancer bioinformatics, metagenomics, epidemiology, integrative systems biology, and machine learning. Our research at DTU Bioinformatics is focused on bioinformatics and computational analyses of large amounts of data generated within biological, biomedical, biotechnological and life sciences area. The section has extended international and national collaborations including industrial and clinical partners. The section for Bioinformatics has played a key role in developing the field of health bioinformatics.Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to do research in the development and application of bioinformatics methods based on different types of genomic data (non-model organisms, human, pathogen, metagenome, ancient DNA, etc.).The ideal candidate will be an expert in biodiversity genomics with a proven track record of applying these techniques to bioinformatics challenges. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Extensive experience in utilisingpopulation and comparative genomic methods across a range of vertebrates, including extinct species.
  • Proven expertise in applying genomic techniques to study evolutionary processes, genetic diversity, speciation, and extinction
  • Shown capacity to develop and apply bioinformatics tools for large-scale genomic data analysis
  • Expertise in handling low-quality and degraded DNA data
  • Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary research
  • Interest in utilising machine learning and genomics to better information biodiversity conservation

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to this strong position through front line research and innovation within the field. In particular, the candidate would have demonstrated capability of attracting external grants.Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences within Bioinformatics. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Research in the development of bioinformatic methods for biodiversity conservation.
  • Develop teaching in the areas of genomics and bioinformatics
  • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects
  • Establish an independent research group including supervision of PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers.

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to have 2-4 years’ experience as assistant professor in genomic research and bioinformatics.As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.Starting date is 1 August 2025 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
