Offer DescriptionWe are looking for an Associate (or Assistant) Professor Critical Global Health to support our multidisciplinary department ‘Health Ethics and Society'(HES) at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.Job description
Origins of poor health in contemporary societies are complex. To make a difference, efforts to address health problems need to take social, political and economic complexities into account and be attuned to both, local realities and globalization processes. Our research line on Health Inequities and Social Participation and our teaching program in Global Health emphasizes looking beyond national boundaries and disciplinary distinctions and to engage with multiple stakeholders to tackle health inequities.Your research should focus on topics relevant in a Global Health context, such as infectious disease/infectious disease control in a broad sense, digital health technologies, health participation in marginalized populations, the health impact of climate change etc. Research on such topics should reside at the interface of science/policies and society with a clear qualitative/participatory/ethnographic style as regards its methodological approach and demonstrate a capacity for conceptual innovation. Interest in multi- and transdisciplinary collaborations, particularly with our partners in Social Medicine and Medical Microbiology is a clear surplus. The Department of Health, Ethics and Society hosts the internationally well recognized Master in Global Health, where we closely collaborate with partner universities in Canada, India, Thailand, Norway, Colombia and Sudan. This program focuses on interacting global-local-biologicalsocial-economic dimensions of health and disease and on the many relationships between (health)technological innovations and societal changes. It provides students with the practical and theoretical skills to effectively navigate this complicated landscape. Each year, more than 100 students attend this Master program. Your teaching responsibilities will cover, among others, the (further) development, coordination and execution of the different elements of our Master program in Global Health. As associate (or assistant) professor joining the Department of Health Ethics and Society you are expected to become an active member of the department and to have clear leading ambitions and capacities. You will perform key roles in teaching, research and management. Your research will be embedded in the research line of Health Inequities and Social Participation (HISP) of the Care and Public Health Research Institute (CAPHRI). Taking that as your starting point, you are willing to establish close collaborations also with other research groups in the department, across research institutes and among and beyond our Faculty and University.Tasks and responsibilities:
