Associate Lecturer – Media & Journalism

Location : Manchester M16 0PU

Salary: Delivery rate: A£35.65 per hour, Prep rate: A£20.20 per hour

Contract dates: Monday 11th November to Friday 20th December 2024

The Role

They are seeking an experienced and passionate Associate Lecturer in Traditional Journalism to join their vibrant team at the University. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering The Audio and Video Production module which sees their students collaborate with industry partners and external entities in the creation of PR and Marketing materials in the form of a 1-2 minute journalism piece and a 1-2 minute PR piece. This module is designed for the students to explore collaborative creation in consultation with a partner.

The ideal candidate will a skilled videographer and editor, preferably with experience filming on Black Magic cameras.

Key Responsibilities:

* Deliver Engaging Lectures: Provide clear, insightful, and interactive lectures that cover the full spectrum of media law and ethics, tailored to students pursuing a career in journalism.
* Module Development: Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the Media Law and Ethics module, ensuring that content remains current and relevant to industry standards.
* Student Support: Offer guidance and mentorship to students, helping them understand complex legal principles and their application in journalism.
* Assessment: Design and grade assessments that accurately measure students’ understanding and application of media law and ethics.
* Industry Engagement: Stay connected with the latest developments in traditional journalism and media law to provide real-world examples and case studies.
* Collaboration: Work closely with other faculty members to integrate legal and ethical considerations across the journalism curriculum.

Skills and Qualifications

* A strong academic background in Traditional Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field.
* Practical experience in journalism, with a particular focus on legal and ethical issues.
* In-depth knowledge of media law, including Civil and Criminal Law, Defamation, Censorship, and Intellectual Property Law.
* Experience in teaching or training, preferably at the higher education level.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to students with varying levels of prior knowledge.
* A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
