Assistant professor (Post-doc/Research Adiunkt) in NCN OPUS 26 project “Tunable Photonic Structures Emulating Low-Dimensional Semiconductor Systems”
Offer DescriptionCOMPETITION OPENING DATE DECEMBER 24,2024The research work will be carried out in the Department of Solid State Physics at the Institute of Experimental Physics, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, under the NCN OPUS 26 Project No. GR 7248 entitled: “Tunable Photonic Structures Emulating Low-Dimensional Semiconductor Systems” DEC-2023/51/B/ST3/03025. The program will be carried out in cooperation with the Military University of Technology. The project focuses on the application of light in birefringent optical cavities to simulate quantum problems in solid-state physics at room temperature. The key objectives of this project are: * Quasiparticle Design: Developing light-based quasiparticles within photonic crystals that emulate the behavior of matter quasiparticles in solid-state systems. This includes investigating self-organization processes in soft matter.
The research will utilize low-dimensional photonic structures in microcavities filled with structured liquid crystals, enabling precise fabrication and control of photonic spin-orbit coupling (SOC).The successful candidate will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team working at the forefront of photonic simulations. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts in the field, access state-of-the-art facilities, and contribute to significant advancements in quantum photonics. The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018 (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2024, item 1571 with further amendments).Where to apply E-mailjacek.szczytko@fuw.edu.plRequirementsResearch Field Physics » Condensed matter properties Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Physics » Optics Education Level PhD or equivalentSkills/Qualifications1. PhD in physics (preferable: solid state physics or optics)2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in scientific research in an optical laboratory: spectroscopic studies (reflection, transmission, luminescence) in real and reciprocal space, working with continuous wave and pulsed operation lasers. Experience with optical microcavities can be an advantage.3. Scientific publications in Q1 journals in the field (according to Web of Science)4. Conference presentations in the form of posters and oral presentations of candidate results at prestigious scientific conferences or seminars5. Ability to theoretical modeling of physical phenomena. Knowledge of Mathematica, Matlab, Python, C++ etc.6. Ability to program laboratory devices (e.g. LabView, Python, C++ etc.) and an experience in work with optoelectronic devices7. Knowledge of the English language at the level of at least B2Specific RequirementsThe candidate should provide the following documents in PDF format to by 23.01.2025:
– the pdf-format with a scanned signature. * Statement on reading and accepting the rules for job applications for a position of an academic teacher at the University of Warsaw (available on the website
) – the pdf-format with a scanned signature. * CV containing, among others, all relevant academic information
Upon successful application the candidate will have to provide originals of the above listed documents. The candidate must meet the conditions set by the National Science Center for people employed in a post-doc position. In particular, the person employed for this position must have a doctoral degree obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project. This period does not include breaks related to maternity leave, additional maternity leave, leave on the conditions of maternity leave, additional leave on the conditions of maternity leave, paternity leave, or parental leave granted on the terms specified in the provisions of the Labor Code or the receipt of sickness allowance or rehabilitation benefits in connection with incapacity for work, including those caused by diseases requiring medical rehabilitation. For women, the indicated 7-year period may be extended by 18 months for each child born or adopted. A woman can choose a more favourable way to indicate breaks in her scientific career.
The employment will take place in accordance with the NCN regulations, in particular the employed person must meet the following conditions jointly:Additional information:The entire procedure will be concluded before 18.02.2025.
