Faculty of ScienceUniversity of CopenhagenThe Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO) at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for 1 to 3 assistant professor positions with a fixed-term duration of 4 years. The positions are placed in the Section for Environment and Natural Resources, and are open from the 1st April 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.Integrated economic and ecological modelling is an increasingly important field of research to disentangle sustainability challenges and support policy development to achieve environmental, social and economic goals. With this opening for 1-3 positions, we seek to strengthen the Departments capacity in integrated modelling of land use policies and environmentally and economically sustainable agricultural production. Join us and contribute to strengthen and develop our team as an assistant professor in environmental-economic modelling related agri-environmental land use policy, with focus on climate, water quality, biodiversity, recreation and food/forest production. In this position, you will contribute to the further development of existing environmental-economic models and develop new modelling platforms at IFRO. The emphasis of the modelling is to identify possible pathways for effective and economically efficient regulation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact of agriculture. We aim to develop the models further beyond state of the art, allowing for inclusion of new environmental themes at relevant spatial scale, to include linkages between agricultural sectors etc. Development of the models to allow for predictions of the effects of incentives and regulations at the relevant spatial and temporal scales is considered a particularly promising avenue for future research developmentThe assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication, research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within environmental-economic modelling as well as public consultancy for relevant Ministries related to Danish agriculture. To a limited extent, the assistant professor will also be asked to contribute to other tasks.The successful applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in environmental economics or similar, as well as experience in modelling and quantitative analyses related to agri-environmental research. Experience from agri-environmental research in Denmark or similar contexts is an advantage.Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen.
