These imaginaries are underexplored in the context of international migration studies, especially regarding the Polish intellectual diaspora. The project aims to present the complex narratives of academic migration to the West to both academic and non-academic audiences, including journalists. It posits that hegemonic imaginaries about universities in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom can be challenged through a detailed analysis of the biographical experiences of internationally mobile academics. The research will utilize a variety of qualitative data sources to explore the life and academic work experiences of Polish-born migrants, focusing on the United States, the United Kingdom (as global centers of scientific knowledge production), and Canada and Australia-two other English-speaking academic systems. The study spans five decades, focusing on academics who left Poland between the 1970s and 2019, excluding political migrants whose decision-making processes occurred under different circumstances.Disciplines: Sociology / History / Social AnthropologyScope of Work: * Conducting 30-40 autobiographical narrative interviews.
