A position as Assistant Professor in the Division of Architectural Engineering is available for 3 years at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment at Aalborg University, Aalborg campus. The appointment is expected to commence 1 December 2024, or soon hereafter. The Department of the Built Environment (BUILD) focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within the built environment. Research areas span from Indoor Environment and Energy Efficient buildings, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Wave Energy to Traffic along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. As an employee at the Department of the Built Environment, you become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations.JobbeskrivelseThe building industry faces numerous challenges with making the built environment more sustainable. From national regulations to European sustainability goals, the industry continuously meets new requirements to efficient use and reuse of resources in construction, promoting renovation of the poorest performing buildings, and improving the occupant well-being.The position is oriented towards research and teaching within the domains covered by the division of Architectural Engineering. This includes different aspects of sustainability related to both design, construction and operation of buildings. This could for example be management of the processes and requirements related to the renovation of existing buildings and methods to ensure a high-quality indoor environment and improved energy performance of our future buildings.You may obtain further information from associate professor Kjeld Svidt, ,+45 99408546.Qualification requirements:We are seeking a candidate with built environment expertise related to the aspects above, holding a relevant educational background, such as Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering, with practical experience being advantageous.We prefer:

  • Knowledge and experience with different building life-cycle stages such as Design, Documentation, Construction(including on-site administration), Operation and Reuse/refurbishment.
  • Proficiency with methods to collect and analyze qualitative data to investigate human behavior and identify barriers/potentials for improving current practice(such as Interviews, Surveys, Observations, and Workshop).
  • Expertise in quantitative data collection and analysis, including on-site measurement techniques, calculations and simulation tools, and methods for data treatment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and modeling skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and preferably Danish.
  • Experience with scientific papers writing, and non-academic knowledge dissemination to industry stakeholders.

Additionally, experience in teaching and supervision, particularly in problem-based learning, is considered an advantage, as the candidate is expected to contribute to teaching within the Division of Architectural Engineering. The candidate should have a broad knowledge and teaching profile.These research tasks include activities within oral and written data collection and data treatment, as well as result dissemination to Danish stakeholders. Also, several of the intended teaching responsibilities are on Danish-only educations such as the Construction Management and Building Informatics educations.Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position(appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).The application must contain the following:
