Offer DescriptionWe expect the Candidate for the position of Assistant Professor (post-doc) in the research group in the project “Critical Disillusions. Refiguring the Tragic in Polish Post-dramatic Theatre” to be interested in the research problem discussed in the project and to carry out the research tasks planned in this area. The overarching aim of the research project is to make the comprehensive investigation focusing on the new notions of the tragic (Williams, Leonard, Lehmann) and postdramatic artistic strategies of its stage expression in contemporary Polish theatre (2014-2024). The research in the project is an attempt to identify artistic ways of dealing with the tragic of (post)modernity, i.e. with new sources, symptoms and aspects of “ontological homelessness”, defined from the perspective of three dominant crises of the Anthropocene: the environmental crisis (concerning climate change, planetary degradation, loss of biodiversity, etc.), the emancipatory crisis (concerning women and the LGBTQ+ community) and the migration crisis (concerning the humanitarian and political crisis related to migration). The principal conceptual framework for the research is defined by Félix Guattari’s ecosophical project, with particular emphasis on the theory of three existential territories – three ecologies (environmental, social and mental), supplemented by the theories of critical posthumanism (Braidotti, Haraway, Stiegler) and theoretical and methodological triangulation from the area of ​​ecocriticism, feminist, migration and queer theories. The research will be focused on dramaturgical and directing strategies, in terms of form and content of stage performance, created by artists who have been working in Poland in the indicated period.For more information about the project and the call, please contact the Principal Investigator, dr hab. UŁ:Project affiliation: University of Lodz, Faculty of Philology, Institute of Contemporary Culture, Department of Drama and Theatre:There is no requirement to permanently reside in (or near) Lodz, however the Candidate must take into account the need to regularly participate in project team meetings.Employment period: 12 months with the possibility of extension to 34 monthsSalary: c. 8 000 – 8 500 PLN (brutto)Where to apply E-mailmalgorzata.budzowska@uni.lodz.plRequirementsResearch Field Cultural studies Education Level PhD or equivalentSkills/Qualifications– PhD in the field of humanities: a PhD thesis in the area of ​​theatre studies or culture studies (disciplines: culture and religion studies, arts studies), or PhD in the field of the arts in the area of theatre (discipline: film and theatre); the call is open to people who obtained a doctoral degree in the year of employment in the project or in the period of 7 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project; this period may be extended for women by 18 months for each born or adopted child/children (in accordance with the NCN guidelines: ); the call is not open to people who hold a PhD diploma awarded by the University of Lodz; an exception to this rule are people who hold a PhD diploma awarded by the University of Lodz, but who – after receiving it – completed a documented postdoctoral internship of at least ten months at a foreign academic institution; detailed conditions for candidates for the post-doc position in calls conducted as part of projects financed by the NCN are described in the document available at: ;– research experience and documented publication record on contemporary theatre;– research experience in the field of post-dramatic theatre research;– very good English, both spoken and written;– ability to work in a research team: communication skills, sense of duty, proactive and responsible attitude, intellectual independence;– knowledge of the principles of the European Charter for Researchers (Annex II to EU Council recommendation on a European framework to attract and retain research, innovation and entrepreneurial talents in Europe: ;– The candidate must meet the condition of no criminal record for the crimes specified in Chapter XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Article 189a and Article 207 of the Penal Code and in the Act of 29 July 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939) and for the prohibited acts specified in foreign law corresponding to these crimes.

Refiguring the Tragic in Polish Post-dramatic Theatre” (DEC-2024/53/B/HS2/00504);– carrying out research tasks concerning collection, selection and organization of research material and its analysis and interpretation in the scopes indicated in the project;– publishing research results in the form of scientific articles in the disciplines: culture and religious studies and arts studies, in Polish and/or in English;– presenting research results at academic conferences in Poland and abroad;– following the rules of the European Charter for Researchers (Annex II to EU Council recommendation on a European framework to attract and retain research, innovation and entrepreneurial talents in Europe: .Additional advantages include:– research experience in the field of contemporary Polish theatre;– experience related to scientific and study trips and research stays at universities, archives or other academic institutions abroad, as well as experience related to participation in research grants (national or international);– artistic experience in the field of theatre.Persons answering the call must submit an application for employment addressed to the HM Rector of the University of Lodz, together with the followingattachments:
