Offer DescriptionCandidate for the position of Assistant (post-doc) at the Department of Physiology, Maj Institute of Pharmacology, Polish Academy of Sciences.KEYWORDS: neurobiology, electrophysiology, monoaminergic systems, serotoninergic system, synaptic plasticity, depression, stress.Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences (further called Institute or IP PAS) announces a competition for the position of an assistant (post-doc) at the Department of Physiology for the implementation of tasks in the NCN Opus 25 (2023/49/B/NZ4/03592), “Plasticity of neuroanatomically identified synaptic inputs and functions of the dorsal raphe nucleus in an animal model of treatment-resistant depression”.We are looking for an assistant (post-doc) interested in conducting molecular, electrophysiological and behavioural research at the Department of Physiology IP PAS.Project Leader: Professor Krzysztof Tokarski, PhDRESPONSIBILITIES: * Carrying out the behavioural procedures, e.g. assessment of antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like behaviours in rodents;

  • Viral vector preparation and injections;
  • Conducting experiments using biochemical (immunochistochemical stainings, Western blotting), molecular (preparation of bacterial and viral vectors, RT-PCR, in situ hybridization), functional assays and microscopic imaging;
  • Analysis of research results, including statistical analysis;
  • Data processing and preparation of manuscripts for publication and presentation of the obtained results during scientific conferences;
  • Strict adherence to the code of ethics of Polish Academy of Sciences employee;
  • Adherence to rules and regulations in force at the IP PAS.

This period does not include breaks related to maternity leave, additional maternity leave, leave on the terms of maternity leave, additional leave on the terms of maternity leave, paternity leave, parental leave granted on the terms specified in the provisions of the Labor Code or receiving a sickness benefit or a rehabilitation benefit due to incapacity for work, including due to an illness requiring rehabilitation. In the case of women, the indicated 7-year period may be extended by 18 months for each born or adopted child. A woman can choose a more favorable way to indicate breaks in her research career;

  • The principal investigator in the project was not the supervisor or co-supervisor of candidate’s doctoral dissertation. The candidate obtained a doctoral degree in a unit other than the unit of planned employment or completed a continuous and documented, at least 10-month postdoctoral internship in a unit other than the unit implementing the project and in a country other than the country of obtaining the doctoral degree.
  • Knowledge in the field of neurobiology, with a focus on monoaminergic system function. An interest in research areas such as: serotonin, neuronal plasticity, stress and pathogenesis of central nervous system disorders would be considered an advantage;
  • At least several years of experience in working in a behavioural, cellular and biochemical laboratory, confirmed in the form of scientific publications in the field of neurobiology (minimum 5 publications in which the Candidate is the first author, including shared first authorship), internships abroad will be considered an advantage;
  • Experience in managing and conducting research projects at the level of planning and implementation of research as well as analysis and publication of results in international journals with a high impact factor;
  • Experience in preparing research proposals for Local Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (LKE);
  • Experience in working with animals as well as completed and certified training for those planning and performing procedures and experiments with the use of laboratory animals and killing animals used in procedures in accordance with the Act on the protection of animals used for scientific or educational purposes (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 465);
  • Experience in working with GMM/GMO, especially in utilizing viral vectors, experience in both in vivo and ex vivo experimental work;
  • Practical skills: molecular biology techniques, working with viral vectors, immunohistochemical staining, fluorescence microscopy including confocal microscopy and image analysis, behavioural assays in rodent models;
  • Ability and documented experience in carrying out physical interactions between proteins including membrane receptors using FRET based approaches ;
  • Ability to work in a team and independently;
  • In the event of winning the competition and starting work in the project, the candidate may not receive any other remuneration from the funds awarded under direct costs under NCN calls, as well as be employed under another contract of employment;
  • The amount of remuneration in the project will be in accordance with the regulations of the OPUS 25 competition;
  • Fluent knowledge of English;
  • Impeccable ethical attitude.
