At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology and Social Work a position as assistant or associate professor in organizational sociology is open for appointment from March 1rst 2024 or soon thereafter. The assistant professorship will be a 4-year position, and the associate professorship will be a permanent position.

Job description

The position will contribute substantially to strengthening the department’s international and national research profile in organizational sociology. Organizational sociologists at the Department of Sociology and Social Work are part of the Organizational Sociology research group and carry out research primarily in public sector organizations using qualitative or mixed methods.

It will be considered an advantage if the candidate can demonstrate how their profile both supports and furthers organizational sociology at the department, for instance through research conducted within one or more of the following areas:

  • Organizational and institutional change/stability
  • Frontline innovation/user innovation practices
  • Volunteering, non-profit organizations, and civil society and their interplay with public and private organizations
  • Sustainable organizing – green transitioning

Applicants must demonstrate strong competences in their research field, including theories, methods and empirical research areas related to organizational sociology, organization and management studies.

Teaching activities within the position include lecturing, supervision, coordination and planning courses in organizational sociology at Department of Sociology and Social Work, both at the Sociology and Social Work Programmes. High quality teaching is an important focus area and applicants are invited to present examples of development of teaching activities, teaching evaluations, and ideas/plans for contributing to furthering the Departments teaching in organizational sociology.

Qualification requirements – Assistant Professor
Applicants for the post of assistant professor must hold a PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential and pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures.

Qualification requirements – Associate Professor
Applicants must document research qualifications at Associate Professor level, including a relevant PhD degree and publications adhering to the level of the applied position. It is presupposed that applicants for the position as associate professor have research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as an assistant professor/researcher or achieved otherwise. The successful candidate can furthermore present an original and coherent research and impact strategy that connects to the Department’s activities, a well-developed network with the practice field, strong international ties to relevant research communities, and experience in designing and managing research projects, as well as activities related to attracting external research funding. Furthermore, it is presupposed that the applicants have received supervision and pedagogical upgrading and a positive written evaluation of their teaching qualifications.

Courses are generally taught in Danish and applicants are expected to be able to read students written work in Danish.

Assessment
An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.
