The Assistant Disability Adviser is a vital member of the Disability Service within the Student & Academic Services Directorate. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure disabled students receive timely needs assessments and reasonable adjustments, providing them with the resources and support required to achieve their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct high-quality assessments of study-related needs (face-to-face and online), reviewing student history and identifying appropriate reasonable adjustments.

Produce detailed study support plans and manage follow-up actions to ensure tailored recommendations are implemented.
*

Support students with applications for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) funding and provide expert advice on available resources.
*

Maintain highly accurate, confidential case notes and documentation in strict accordance with GDPR requirements.
*

Liaise with internal academic departments and external stakeholders to ensure a holistic, wraparound approach to student wellbeing.

Provide information to prospective students during Open/Visit Days and contribute to raising awareness of inclusive practices across the University.

Requirements

Experience & Knowledge:

HE/FE Experience: Practical experience in assessing study needs for disabled students within a Higher or Further Education setting is essential.

Specialist Support: Demonstrated experience supporting students with mental health conditions, learning differences (e.g., Dyslexia, ADHD), or Autistic Spectrum Conditions.
*

Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of DSA processes, disability-related legislation, and Equality & Inclusion principles.

Qualifications: SCQF Level 8 (HND/SVQ4) or equivalent, with evidence of professional development in a related field.

Skills:

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work sensitively with students in distress.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using online databases or student record systems.
*

Ability to work autonomously and manage a busy caseload to meet strict deadlines during peak academic periods.
