Area Sales Manager in MODENA, Italy


Job description

This is a fast-paced commercial role. You’ll be expected to set up meetings with existing and potential customers within your assigned territory. You’ll listen to customer needs and then work with engineers and proposals specialist to create quotations of automation solutions. You’ll need to then convince customers to choose your solution (and, in particular, software solutions) versus any competitors. After winning an order, you’ll ensure your customers receive excellent service by following up on orders and ensuring timely delivery through our supply chain.

You’ll keep abreast of rapidly emerging Industry 4.0 and other technologies and you’ll act as an adviser and partner to customers as you help them implement these new technologies to change their business models.

You will drive specification and implementation of your product range by working closely with OEM’s, system integrators, EPC’s and end users.

The office location is in Milan (Seregno, MB), Italy, however the role requires a very high percentage of time to be spent visiting customers, so home-based locations in Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Trentino Alto Adige area will be considered.


The most critical job tasks and areas of accountability for the position are:

• Strategic approach to select key verticals/accounts in the defined territory.

• On-time follow-up of leads generated by marketing activities to target new business creation.

• Creatively expand the list of target accounts, focusing on OEMs, also identifying new niches of growth, with entrepreneurship.

• Put new customers first and help them solve their challenges.

• Tactical planning for commercial and marketing activities.

• Customer and opportunity prospecting followed by deal closing.

• Accountability for the performance of new orders and sales for the defined territory.

• Account planning and tactical execution.

• Interacting with marketing, product managers, engineers, and supply chain to provide feedback on market, or customer, needs and dynamics.

• Partner with our global marketing team and industry managers to execute local activities.

• CRM based orders forecasting

• Maintain thorough knowledge of all Emerson MAS products, applications, price structure, industry developments strategies


The candidate will have completed studies in either Control Systems / Computer Science / Electrical / Electronics / IT / Computer Programming and will have a solid knowledge of PLC programming environment and HMI Scada software.

Preferred: Engineering Degree

Minimum 5 years of experience in a outside sales role, or a small business leadership role, preferably in industrial automation, dealing with OEMs.

Previous role as Application Engineer (or Solution Architect) preferred.

Working knowledge of discrete and hybrid automation systems. Technologies include Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), HMI/SCADA/OEE software and cloud/EDGE technologies, Operator Interfaces, Motion and Safe Motion, Variable Speed Drives (VSD’s).

Preferred: strong experience in selling Scada software.

Sales experience in adjacent industries may be considered for the right candidate (mechatronics / robotics / information & operations technology / industrial or manufacturing software / MES & MIS / cloud computing / instrumentation / OEM equipment)

Strong communication skills both verbally and written: natively fluent in Italian, good command of English language.

Domestic travel required
