Job description

Offer DescriptionWe are looking for a person to implement AI procedures in the ERC Advanced Grant project “SCAVENGERS”.This archaeological project aims to investigate the effects of carnivores on Middle Paleolithic campsites to better interpret the archaeological sites. The candidate will use AI to identify the main variables involved in the scavenging activities of carnivores in archaeological sites. To do this, all the data from experimental reproductions of Middle Palaeolithic campsites altered by carnivores such as hyenas, wolves, bears and other minor carnivores (WP1-Neotaphony) will be available .The goal is to develop an AI architecture with the obtained parameters able to discriminate assemblages perturbed by scavengers. Therefore, the results will serve to test some Middle Palaeolithic sites and to determine the effects of the carnivores in these specific contexts. The goal is to develop a AI architecture with the obtained parameters able to discriminate assemblages visited by scavengers and the activities carried out by these animals in these contexts. In addition, she/he will provide support for key research activities and studies across the different work packages of the project, taking a special care on the curation, organization, and management of the project’s data with the support of a Data Steward. Finally, he/she will give support to the PI mentoring the PhD students, also working in coordination with the postdoctoral researchers.
