About usA 4-year UCL PhD studentship funded by the Alzheimer’s Society Doctoral Training Centre for Integrated Care. The Centre brings together five leading institutions in dementia care research: Queen Mary University of London, University College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, Leeds Beckett University and University of Plymouth. It commences on 1 October 2025 onwards.About the roleBackgroundOur experienced and passionate team will support a cohort of students in developing PhD studies that not only contribute to international research individually but also collectively create a unique body of knowledge. This research will focus on delivering seamless care from diagnosis to end of life, ensuring independence, autonomy, and choice for all, with a particular emphasis on reaching under-served populations. In our first student cohort, starting October 2025, we will support and nurture five talented future dementia research leaders to conduct PhDs, which will be funded for four years full time.Our interdisciplinary group (primary care, allied health, psychiatry, psychology, geriatrics, neurology, nursing, social care) spans health and social care, people living with dementia, and current/former carers/supporters. Students will be supported by cross-institutional supervision teams. Their research projects will be co-produced with PPIE, and key stakeholders.Hypothesis/AimsThere are three PhD projects
1) End-of-life care planning for people experiencing socioeconomic deprivation with dementia
2) Improving personalised care planning for people with dementia and Parkinson’s disease
3) How can health and social care best meet the needs of people with dementia and their carers experiencing financial hardship?Project details in the link .About youApplicants should have, or expect to receive an upper second-class UK Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject or a medical degree, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard, or a recognised taught Master’s degree.What we offerThis studentship provides a starting stipend of £21,500 per annum and covers the cost of tuition fees based on the UK (Home) rate.Non-UK students can apply but if they are not eligible for UK/Home fees status, will have to personally fund the difference between the UK (Home) rate and the Overseas rate.NB: You will be asked about your likely fee status at the interview so we would advise you to contact the UCL Graduate Admissions Office for advice, should you be unsure whether or not you meet the eligibility criteria for Home fee status.
