A well-established company, active in the banking sector, is currently looking for a dedicated AFC Officer to join their Brussels office. In your new role, you will ensure that all AFC policies, procedures, systems and controls are followed and implemented efficiently. You will report directly to the Compliance and AFC Country Manager.Your main responsibilities as the new AFC Officer will be:

  • Contribute to the key activities
  • Approve the introduction of new customers with an increased risk of money laundering as defined in the Group and Know Your Customer policies
  • Approval to conduct regular reviews of customers with an increased/higher anti-money laundering risk, as defined in the Group and local Know Your Customer policies
  • Approve and monitor conditional customer introductions
  • Carry out second-line checks on know-your-customer, first-line transaction monitoring and other anti-money laundering issues
  • Manual overwriting and authorisation of name list screening results and AML risk scores
  • Client database verification against individuals and entities on the applicable sanctions list
  • Verification and monitoring of risk score and Name List Screening feedback reports.
  • Suspicious activities: investigation, assessment, reporting to the competent authorities (FIU) and monitoring
  • Responding to and monitoring FIU requests for information.
  • Contributing to periodic risk analysis
  • Ensure the establishment and maintenance of appropriate AFC policies and procedures with a clear definition of responsibilities and ownership for the first and second lines of defence; ensure that these documents support the specific requirements of Belgium, local management and staff in compliance with all related legal and regulatory obligations, relevant Group standards and best practice and integrity standards applicable to their activities.
  • Advise on the implications of new internal and external rules relating to the AFC and make sure that local guidelines and procedures are compliant and reflect all laws/regulations. Report exceptions to the Head of AFC.
  • Participate and provide AFC support on all relevant projects, making sure that applicable standards are met, associated risks are mitigated and stakeholders, in particular the customer, are taken into account.
  • Provide advice on AFC matters to all departments and divisions within the company, especially to commercial staff and front-line control teams.
  • Contribute to maintaining a culture of staff awareness of AFC compliance by providing appropriate training to staff.

Your profile:

  • You have a Master’s degree in law, finance or other relevant education
  • You have at least 5 years’ relevant experience in AML/KYC processes and more generally with other AFC-related subjects (fraud, anti-bribery & corruption, sanctions and embargoes)
  • You have similar experience in a position within an international organisation or a bank in the financial services sector
  • You have a solid understanding of banking and financial products
  • You have a good knowledge of the two national languages (French and Dutch) and English, both written and spoken
  • You are able to promote the company’s values and ethical framework
  • You are able to pinpoint problems and solutions or opportunities, and to enhance the effectiveness of control programmes
