Salary: up to £33.57 per hour
Here at the University of Huddersfield International Centre, we pride ourselves in providing a supportive learning experience that prepares our students for the challenges of undergraduate and postgraduate study. We are dedicated to providing excellent academic and English skills and knowledge that will enable our International students to progress onto their chosen programme of study at the University and an eventual successful career. Our academic team enjoy a collaborative approach to Teaching and Learning by supporting each other in the planning, delivery and evaluation of our programmes and modules content. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to teach our academic English programmes to international students on our pathway programme for International Foundation Year, International Year 1 or Pre-Masters Programmes. Candidates should be qualified to at least undergraduate level, have a Certificate, and preferably a Diploma, in teaching English as a Foreign Language and previous experience teaching English for academic purposes. A teaching qualification and/or Masters qualification would be an advantage. ABOUT THE ROLE

Plan appropriate, effective and inclusive learning programmes through schemes of work that promote equality and engage with diversity

Plan teaching sessions which accommodate individualised learning using a variety of resources, including digital learning
-
Be responsible for the creating and updating teaching materials
-
Ensure all learning materials are available on the AES (Academic English Skills) online platform for students to access and engage with.

Apply the principles of learning to provide learning activities to meet curriculum requirements and the needs of all students
-
Select the relevant learning approaches and skill development to ensure students’ progress
-
Contribute to the provision of a stimulating learning environment whilst adhering to the Centres’ Health and Safety procedures.

Apply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment
-
Use a variety of methods to check learning in lessons (formative assessment)
-
Engage with WISEflow – our online assessment platform – for assessment, marking and training.

Provide regular and timely feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualifications
-
Prepare students for summative assessment whether for an exam, course work or assignments etc.

Engage in standardisation and moderation of assessment materials and student work
-
Maintain up to date and accurate records of student attendance and progress
-
Respond promptly and appropriately to lapses in student attendance, punctuality, behaviour and application to their studies by individual conversations with students, referrals to personal tutors or where appropriate, senior management.

Support students with individual target setting and revise these throughout the year during progress checks

Support student with action planning to improve academic performance and achieve aspirational targets

Be available to offer support to students as required (e.g. workshops, booster and revision classes)

Support students to progress to the University by being proactive in liaising with University Schools and link tutors

Contribute to student progress reports in a clear and constructive manner
-
Strive for and attain high levels of student achievement

Act as progress coach and carry out duties associated with this role if required.

Refer students for learning support where appropriate

Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of students in your care. Refer to support services where appropriate.

Contribute to effective communication with stakeholders (parents, sponsors, University etc)

Be aware of and comply with all Centre quality assurance processes such as observation of teaching and learning, audits of teaching and learning material, programme and module evaluation and subject team performance reviews

Demonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist teaching
-
Convey enthusiasm for personal specialist area to staff and students
-
Engage in professional development to improve teaching and learning practice, and update subject specialist knowledge
-
Undertake reflection and self-evaluation of personal teaching practice and continuing professional development
-
Comply with expectations of professional conduct
-
Use student feedback to improve personal performance
-
Work as part of the Academic English Skills (AES) Team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for students
-
Be prepared to operate on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the AES Team and the Centre as a whole
-
Be available to cover lessons for absent colleagues as required
-
Prepare for and participate in appropriate Centre events (e.g. induction activity, enrichment, Progression week University school events, award ceremonies etc)
-
Promote a cohesive work ethic within the AES Team and the Centre as a whole
-
Share best practice and contribute to the AES Teams’ bank of effective resources/ideas/activities for Teaching and Learning.

Attend team and centre meetings in accordance with the Centre’s meeting schedule.

Liaise with other tutors within the centre, personal tutors, the student experience team, support and well-being staff and e-champion.
ABOUT YOU
-
Certificate or preferably a Diploma, in teaching English as a Foreign Language.
-
Qualified to Degree level or professional equivalent in a relevant subject area.
-
Successful teaching and assessment experience at level 3 and 4
-
Teaching experience at level 5 and/or 6 desirable
-
Current experience in the delivery of Academic English
-
Experience of teaching International Students
