Grow with us as we embark on building tomorrow together by being the safest, most diverse and most profitable industrial gas company in the world.Reimagine What’s PossibleWe are looking for an Advanced Control Engineer to join our team in The Hague, The Netherlands.As a member of the Operational Excellence team, the Advanced Controls engineer provides advanced controls project implementation to new plants operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
The facilities range across multiple technologies such as Air Separation (ASU), traditional and low carbon intensity Hydrogen and CO production (Grey, Blue and Green HYCO), Gasification, Syngas Purification and Helium.Your main responsibilities will be to work closely with the facility operations team and support them to ensure optimal plant operation before handover of the control functions to regional support teams. You advise the operating teams on routine maintenance for the, implementing modifications to the optimization strategy, incorporating best practices, and installing software updates.Additional responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe work environment and proper documentation required for safety related activities.
  • Ensure the safety of all operations personnel by utilizing the Air Products Basic Safety Practice program, which includes Safety Work Permits, LOTO, etc. The position will be a visible presence to build the Air Products safety culture into new operating assets.
  • Implement Advanced Control projects which perform on-line plant optimization based on the engineering and optimization principles for new plant implementations.
  • Provide support to Plant Process Engineering and Plant Operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve process operating problems including product quality, plant efficiency, reliability, and operability issues.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary engineering and operations team to identify optimization strategies for new facilities. Implement new controllers aligned with new plant commissioning and startup schedules.
  • Work with regional Advanced Control teams to develop standard practices and deploy into new projects. Work collaboratively with regional Operations Advanced controls personnel to understand best practices and lessons learned on existing assets.
  • Work with engineering project teams, DCS automation technology managers, cyber security teams and Digital Technology to implement safe, secure and easy to maintain advanced controls architectures.

Besides this, you will provide engineering support & guidance during commissioning or modifications to existing assets. Maintain accurate document control and monitor quality assurance initiatives. You provide technical support for MOC’s and technical input to Root Cause Analysis to identify & implement sustainable corrective actions and interface with the Process Controls Engineers to define appropriate DCS interface requirements, and jointly design, implement and assess those interfaces. Support DCS/PLC external connectivity projects required as part of productivity improvement projects.To be successful, you will have:

  • Bachelor diploma in Chemical Engineering. M.S or PhD with specialization in chemical engineering, control engineering is an additional benefit
  • 5-10 years of Process Engineering, Operations Process Engineering and/or Advanced Process Controls Engineering experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing plant optimization strategies and implementing performance improvements in operating plants.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with plant operators, process control engineers, production engineers, plant process engineers and plant management.
  • Demonstrated “hands-on” ability to configure, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair various plant advanced and regulatory control issues.
  • Support new plant advanced control startup globally with approximately 25% travel to operating facilities
  • Understanding of hydrogen or syngas production and purification, or Air Separation Unit plant design and operation is highly appreciated
